Charles David is recalling thousands of shoes due to a fall hazard caused by the heel. Photo: jupiterimages

We've fallen because of the heels on our shoes more times than we care to admit, but Charles David is issuing a voluntary recall of about 3,200 pairs of shoes due to a fall hazard -- the heels could detach and cause the wearer to take a tumble. (Only one such occurrence had been reported thus far, and thankfully, it didn't result in any major injuries.)

A variety of styles and colors from both the Charles by Charles David and Charles David of California lines are included in the recall, all with item number #SAMPCHSHOE or #SAMPCDSHOE.

The shoes, imported from Spain, Italy and China, were sold nationwide at Nordstrom Rack stores between April and June of this year for $22 - $80.

If you purchased a pair of the recalled styles, you're encouraged to stop wearing the shoes immediately and return them to a Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack for a full refund.

For additional information, call 800-804-0806.

Chanel went for an edgy take on the t-strap heel, adding chunky lucite heels to ombre ankle-strap shoes in jewel-tone shades.

High Heels are dangerous they shift the weight off balance. Over weight people exert to much pressure on the heels making a dangerous design more hazzardous. Heels easily get caught in metal grates or holes and wobble on uneven ground .They are not really good on the back are they so why would you buy them?

It is important to notice that the shoes were only sold at the Nordstrom rack, a secondary outlet, and not the regular stores. It is a very distinct possibility that Nordstrom had these shoes made up especially made to prop up sales at the Nordstrom Rack outlet stores. I always question a move like that where something is made up especially to be sold at a lower price. Will it be of the same quality if it were going to be sold at the regular stores?

I believe it also says something about the product if it is made in three different countries. It is very hard to maintain the quality control when you dealing with a country like China which does not have the history of making finer hand made shoes as to Italy which can claim the opposite with Spain being more like Italy but not always.

Some thoughts to consider.

sadly, a shoe can be made in china, but have an Italy or Spanish label if the pieces are individually made in china and the upper is attached to the sole in another country. That allows companies to save money by using the cheaper labour for more intensive stitching jobs while still claiming the higher price for a 'European' shoe.

If people were willing to pay for quality in the first place (instead of buying dozens of pairs of pseudo-luxury goods that aren't needed) this effects of mass-production would be severely limited.

Yes, MY shoes are handmade, and yes, I only have four pairs.
