Christiane Amanpour Gets a High-Fashion Makeover

The woman went to some of the more hellish places on Earth, yet rarely if ever appeared wrinkled, worried or without earrings.
So when I heard Harper's Bazaar had given her a makeover of sorts, I wondered what, really, they could do to improve on her.
But one look at these pictures and -- wow! She just looks amazing.
In Bazaar's August issue, Amanpour tells Rita Wilson (the actress and wife of Tom Hanks) that her particular uniforms have come about from necessity.
"Well, no one has ever accused me of being stylish," she says. "I have always been concerned, particularly in my job, with being practical and presentable with as little effort as possible."
She can pack her bags in 15 minutes, and knows she'll be comfortable enough to focus on her job. And she also knows another style lesson many of us should embrace: be honest.
"I don't look good in frou-frou. I'd love to, and I've tried, but I just don't look good in excessive volume. No puff and no plunge," she says.

She also rocks an animal-print Ann Taylor number (right), priced more for a regular journalist's salary at $160.
But what I found to be the best part: On her well-toned arms, she wears her own beautiful gold bangles, no doubt gathered from some far-off corners of the world, where she'll continue to uncover the truth and look damn good doing it.
Catch her new weekend show, "Amanpour", on CNN this September.
