To mark the 30th anniversary of the bubbly designer's label, Betsey Johnson collaborated Opening Ceremony, the hip retailer specializing in offbeat, original pieces from unique emerging talents as well as already established labels. And who knows more about dancing...sorry, we mean cartwheeling to the beat of her own drummer than Betsey?
In this punked-out partnership named Betsey Johnson Archive Curated by Opening Ceremony, the vibrant designer moves away from frilly pink prom dresses and back to the essence of her 80's style, recreating pieces from her first lines, Alley Cat, Paraphernalia and of course, her current namesake line.
But, the best news yet: the capsule is only the beginning of a hook up between the two companies. The two are planning to launch the line in top-tier boutiques across the country in addition to their own boutiques. Betsey and Opening Ceremony are excited to bring the designer's iconic re-worked looks to those of us that may have missed her originals in the previous decades when Edie Sedgwick, Twiggy and even Jackie Kennedy were wearing them.

"I'm excited and honored to have a whole collection devoted to my archives by the coolest kids on the block," said Betsey of her collaboration with the retailer.
The feelings are definitely mutual: "We are very excited to be working with Betsey Johnson, whom we consider an icon in American fashion," says Humberto Leon of Opening Ceremony. "There have been so many incredible moments of Betsey Johnson over the last 30 years, that we wanted to highlight signature pieces in her history that
haven't been seen in a long time."
The 35 look collection features plenty of form-fitting stretch fabric looks including textured knit mini-dresses, printed rompers and one of our favorites, a rock-chic fuzzy crop coat. Though, most the ultra-cool garb is solid black, it wouldn't be in character for the designer not to throw in some vivid cherry print and snake printed pieces.
We haven't heard an exact date when the pieces will be in stores yet, but the archive-inspired capsule collection will be available sometime soon for the Fall/ Winter 2009 season at Opening Ceremony and select Betsey Johnson boutiques.
