Miss Universe Japan's Sexy Outfit Causes a Serious Stir

Holy inappropriateness!

As first reported over at Beauty In Pageants blog, the recently crowned Miss Universe Japan, Emiri Miyasaka, is causing quite the stir in both her homeland and abroad after revealing a risky getup that she supposedly planned to don during the preliminaries of the Miss Universe 2009 competition, set for August 23 in the Bahamas.

The porny oufit -- complete with hot pink garters and matching panties peaking out from under a polka dot kimono -- was supposed to be worn in the "National Costume" portion of the competition, where each contestant shows off the sartorial styles of her country.

Whether or not this outfit is going to hurt Miyasaka's chances of making it to the finals, the Director for Miss Universe Japan, Ines Ligron, doesn't seem to care.

On her blog, Ligron said the outfit was an "original concept of her team of designers and stylists" dreamt up to "[create] a big PR buzz around the world." She also pointed to the stunt as a way to reinvent beauty pageants to not be so "safe and politically correct."

"I care only about the movers and shakers in the fashion industry. My vibe is of Junya Watanabe, Yohji Yamamto, Issey Miyake, John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Cavalli and Dolce & Gabbana. They have created a new area in fashion and [their] mind works like mine," she wrote.

"The conservative and fashion dinosaurs are criticizing her costume, meanwhile the fashionistas love it."

Okay, fashionistas, how much do you really love it?

I don't think she looks like a prostitute, but it just is in the same category as the new Bruno flick that is out. A small group of folks are going to think it's wonderful, a larger contingency will raise holy smoke and in the middle are folks like me (a holy roller by the way), who just thinks she could have done something really fabulous without resorting to the pink stockings, garter belt and panties. Let's face it, the contestants reveal much more when they do the swim suit competition, but, this just looks like a hodge podge with pink thrown in. I get wanting to be edgy and different, but this is edgy and different in a competition where you want to stand out for your talents and not because some designer decided to make you look cheesy. (Think Elton John with all his horrible costumes over the years. His talent is remarkable and he didn't need the gimmicks.) Is this young woman unattractive, attractive, gorgeous? Who knows? We're all looking at pink stockings and judging her morals rather than let's look at her features and can she sing/dance/play the piano/ or whatever her talent is that we should be judging?

You shouldn't be "judging" anything or anyone Candy, as you are an admitted "Holy Roller" and they are the ones who will be judged by the Lord for trying to do his job for him (or her).

Where do you live that has prostitutes that look like that?
I'm pretty well traveled. I have not seen them.
Are you talking about movie versions, of what Hollywood thinks a prositute looks like?
Or is this fantasy thinking?

1. I actually like her outfit. Yea it's a spin on the traditional outfit, and yes some Japanese may be offended, but it was obviously an attempt to stand out so that she would have higher chances of winning. How can you win if people don't even remember your face?
2. Elton John's outfits were not 'gimmicks'. He could easily be compared to Michael Jackson in the sense that, he was wearing all those things at his age because as a child he was not able to afford a Donald Duck costume or what have you. THAT'S why you saw him wearing those outfits on stage. To relive his childhood as a grown man.

Whoa, no one seemed to read anything but my comment. Earlier someone said she looked like a prostitute. I didn't. I was defending her. That Michael Jackson and Elton John were reliving childhoods by wearing costumes wasn't the point, that they didn't need to wear costumes because they were/are outstanding talents without the gimmicks was the point and my point for her is that she doesn't need a gimmick if she is pretty and if she is talented. Expressing that I am a 'holy roller' was to point out that not all folks who have a belief system think that she should be locked up, covered up or any of the above. If she was going to the mardi gras, cool. If she was going to a costume party or a celebrity event involving Hollywood/Bollywood/Jollywood, great! But, for the Miss Universe pagent, I don't think she needs to take it to this extreme. You all need to get a life. And, all those scammers with their products need to go away, too. I hope you are all reporting them - they're part of a Canadian scam group trying to extract information from your e-mails/blogs so take care and let's ditch them. So, read the other blogs/opinions first before you try and trash my opinions. Ok?

Geisha hooker meets Paris Hilton!! I'm all for cutting edge fashion, but the pink hose, garters, and peek-a-boo panties scream "pro"...this pageant is a little classier than that I would think and I hope they have at least SOME guidelines for the National "Costume" portion.

I FOLLOW FASHION A LOT ,BUT WE ARE TALKING ABOUT MS UNIVERSE HERE REPRESENTING THE WHOLE ENTIRE WORLD I MEAN DOES SHE KNOW WHAT SHE IS GETTING INTO BEFORE THEY ENTER THE PAGEANT ..
