No. 5: Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets, $4.76

    TotalBeauty.com average rating: 9

Why it's great: Many readers prefer these sheets because they "take away all the shine and greasiness" without giving them "a cakey, powdery face." Another plus: "They leave nothing behind to irritate your skin, no fragrance or powder," one reader says. Also, "you can use them without a mirror" and a sheet "doesn't ruin my makeup in the process." Readers say these are "an essential item that I must always have with me anywhere I go."

    No. 4: Boscia Oil-free Daily Hydration SPF 15, $27

    TotalBeauty.com average rating: 9.2

Why it's great: Readers say this product "hydrates where it needs to and controls oil in the [other] areas". Oily-skinned readers say this "provides just the right amount of moisture and keeps me shine free all day." It also "helps my foundation stay put," one reader says, and others love that it "offers SPF 15 without being greasy."

No. 3: Origins Frothy Face Wash, $18.50

    TotalBeauty.com average rating: 9.2

Why it's great: Combination-skinned readers love this because it "strikes that perfect balance" by putting "moisture in the dry spots and drying up the oily spots." One reader says, "It really does discover where the oily spots are and treat those areas differently from the normal/dry areas." And another adds, "This wash leaves my skin feeling clean and healthy, not dry and oily."

    No. 2: MAC Blot Powder/Pressed, $21

    TotalBeauty.com average rating: 9.3

Why it's great: "MAC's Blot Powder keeps me matte for the entire day," readers say. But even if a touch-up is necessary, "It doesn't cake up or make you look like you've applied something on top of your makeup mid-day." One reader says, "It does a fantastic job of controlling the shine and dispersing the oils" and another adds, "It banishes oil without leaving a heavy powder finish, ever, no matter how many times you reapply during the day."

No. 1: Estee Lauder Double Matte Oil-Control Pressed Powder, $26

    TotalBeauty.com average rating: 9.4

Why it's great: "It really controls the shine and even makes your pores look better," readers say about this powder. And while they "love the matte finish" they also appreciate that it "does not dry out the skin, it will not cake, [it] looks really smooth and provides extra coverage." It also "stays fresh on my face all day," one reader says, while another adds that it's "easy to carry around" for touchups.

No. 12: Prescriptives Virtual Matte Oil-Control Makeup, $32.50

    TotalBeauty.com average rating: 8.8

Why it's great: Readers say this foundation "helps to control the oil," even with "extremely oily skin." It also "doesn't get shiny after a whole day of wear or a night of partying," one reader says. Another adds: "I highly recommend you try it out if you have combo skin or oily skin."

No. 11: Avon Magix Face Perfector SPF 20, $7.99

    TotalBeauty.com average rating: 8.8

Why it's great: Readers say this primer makes "skin look smooth and matte." One reader says: "I use to have to touch up with powder during the day because of shine, now [that I use this] I don't." Readers also say this helped stop shine "during some of the most humid days" and "it lasts more than five hours!"

    No. 10: Per-fekt Skin Perfection Gel, $57.50

    TotalBeauty.com average rating: 8.8

Why it's great: This tinted primer has "a noticeable mattifying effect," readers say. Although it's pricey, readers say it's worth it because it "doesn't feel greasy or heavy, doesn't clog pores and makes skin look flawless." Other readers say this "covers enlarged pores" and makes skin look "perfect."

No. 9: Clinique City Block Sheer Oil-Free Daily Face Protector SPF 25, $16.50

    TotalBeauty.com average rating: 8.8

Why it's great: While many sunscreens can exacerbate oily skin, readers say this "drier texture" product "absorbs oil and protects your skin." One reader says, "It wicks away sweat and manages to help keep makeup in place, no matter how hot it is outside." Another reader raves, "It keeps my face oil-free all day!"

There are two products for oily skin that I love – and Clarins Truly Matte Foundation and Mattify Cosmetics Ultra Powder. Without these my face turns into a slimy oily mess after a couple of hours. It’s so gross! But these products really help my face stay matte. The Clarins makeup lasts all day without fading and the Mattify powder helps prevent shine for about three hours before I need to add more. I don’t like the feel of makeup but both of these are really light feeling and don’t make it look like you’re wearing a mask. The best part is that they cover my freckles and old acne scars, and make it look like I don’t have pores!
