plus-size naked model in Glamour

So, Glamour magazine is doing just that.

After supportive letters flooded in after the magazine ran unairbrushed size 12-14 model Lizzi Miller naked, except for a thong, in the magazine's September issue, Glamour has decided to focus its lenses on plus-size beauties once again.

For its upcoming November issue, photographer Matthias Vriens shot the full-figured Miller once again, along with her curvy model counterparts Kate Dillon, Jennie Runk, Amy Lemons, Ashley Graham, Anansa Sims (daughter of Beverly Johnson) and our favorite model-slash-author Crystal Renn.

Renn, whose book "Hungry" about overcoming an eating disorder is being released next week, told StyleList that she has high hopes for fashion moving away from the waif aesthetic.

"It starts with the sample sizes and I think designers are becoming more aware. I think there have been many positive changes. I've done all of the Vogue's and Dolce & Gabbana ads. It's just a matter of time before it's brought back to mainstream," Renn said. "Women want to see themselves in the pictures -- they want to see their size, color and height. I think if that happens, it'll make women feel more empowered and they'll love themselves more."

Glamour editor-in-chief Cindi Leive says that was certainly the response received after 20-year-old Miller posed with her slightly saggy stomach and full thighs on display.

"I am gasping with delight...I love the woman on p 194!" said one reader, who wrote into Leive.

Another reader said: "This beautiful woman has a real stomach and did I even see a few stretch marks? This is how my belly looks after giving birth to my two amazing kids! This photo made me want to shout from the rooftops."

With Forever 21 launching a plus-size line, Gossip's Beth Ditto going nude on the cover of Love (and designing a clothing line for Evans), "Dance Your Ass Off" on prime-time and even British Vogue's editor-in-chief Alexandra Schulman denouncing the size zero samples used by the major design houses, could we see a curvy girl trend on the rise?

What do you think? Leave a comment below.

Bolt - you are so wrong.

Marilyn Monroe, Gretta Garbo, etc, were size 12-14. Until Twiggy came along in the 1970s models were normal and healthy.

Clothing sizes are different based on the price point - the more expensive the line, the more generous the cut and the smaller the size. When I was 25 lbs lighter (and a Department Store Buyer no less) I worn sizes 4-10 - depending on the manufacturer. And don't argue with me on this - I have a 4 year degree in fashion and worked in the industry for 20 years.

But even at 110 lbs, skinny as a rail, and eating anything I wanted, I never looked any better than Miller. The way she is sitting, anyone would have a tummy. In fact, I look better at my current 139 lbs, size 10 than I ever looked at 110 size 8 20 years ago.

Don't blame weight gain strictly on food and lack of exercise. Many times weight is genetic and hormonal and metabolism. I eat less than 700 calories per day, walk 10 miles per week, and haven't lost a single pound in 5 years.

Only 2% of the nation looks like the images the Marketing world wants us to believe is the norm. A size 10-12 is not plus-size except in the fashion industry. It's the norm. The sizes sold the least are 4-6. It's been that way for the last 30 years I've been involved in retail.

That woman is not a fat-ass, she looks like she's supposed to look, with the exception of that little droopy belly which is easily overlooked. Better than a walking skeloton like those ugly runway models. As long as beautiful does not become like that digusting fat pig on the cover of that Brit magazine, damned beached whale.

I find it interesting how thin women are not "real" women. When did being thin make someone less of a woman and when did having "curves" make someone more of a woman? Yes, as a former model, I know the fashion industry is tough on women and critical of weight. It is unhealthy and out of hand. However, here is what many people don't seem to understand.
During my extensive study of mass media, I discovered why companies who use models to wear or advertise their products require them to be extremely thin, airbrushed, and perfectly placed. The job of a company attempting to advertise a product is to make the consumer feel as though the product is a necessity. While anti-aging make-up, mascara, stetch mark cream, or weight loss pills may not be "necessary," the company shows these perfect models to make the consumer feel as though that kind of image is attainable through use of its product, and therefore preys on the insecurities women have about their bodies. Until women start celebrating their bodies and stop camparing them to others, this type of advertising will continue to thrive.

Real men do not view women strictly as objects who should starve themselves on lettuce to get approval.
If your degrading women then GROW UP
If your mindset is that women are beautiful only if they are tiny then you should stick to airbrushed porno magz. and sheep
If your a man who gets it you won't find this appealing.
Men should have killer abs and be strong Nordic types or they are ugly too?
90% of men are immature and prideful and USE women
I applaud the rest-

What I think amazes me is the viciousness of the comments being made against people of size. Why is being cruel towards the overweight/obese the last acceptable form of prejudice in America? Why the hatred and vitriol? Why the lack of compassion? I don't understand the logic that people follow. If there is an alcoholic person or a drug addict, it is "understandable" that they are addicted to alcohol/drugs...they receive compassion, are urged (in LOVING ways) to seek help. The reasons as to why they turned to substance abuse are understood, heard, and accepted. But the fact that someone could be using food to soothe internal pain, for emotional comfort is a moral judgment against them? They're called horrific names?? What is the difference between a person who uses one thing to self-medicate compared to another? Because of the way they look? Wow...how horribly shallow you are. Here's another thing to think about. Anorexics and bulimics are doing JUST as much damage to their health and their bodies as compulsive overeaters are doing...but the difference between the diseases? Anorexics and bulimics, IN OTHERS EYES, have more "willpower" and "strength" to resist food. It is "understandable" because they are fighting and struggling to look "socially acceptable". They get empathy and compassion because ???? Why? Why aren't bulimics seen as lazy and gluttonous? Because they then purge the food out? Ah, I see...And why aren't anorexics seen as disgusting? Their hair is usually thin and falling out, they have emaciated bodies. Yet, we look at them with pity, with pain in our hearts....why not the obese person. The hypocrisy...THAT is what is disgusting here. Anorexics and bulimics are master liars and manipulators. Why is that OK??? Because the end goal is being THIN?? How sick are we in this society? Sometimes...I'm ashamed of the things we give value in our society. We ought to be ashamed. And also...I think most of the time, the reason the obese are the ones people gun for, the ones that are mocked and treated so horribly is because, inside, so MANY of us feel empty, feel pathetic levels of self-hatred. And..instead of taking the time to heal the pain we are suffering from inside, we'd rather focus on the "flaws" of others, turn the hatred outward. Because it makes you feel better to put someone else down. What a pathetic life you lead. Focus on bettering yourself. The fact you are CAPABLE of such cruelty, of spewing such mean words shows you really have some work to do on yourself....and remember: " If you judge people, you have no time to love them." - Mother Teresa

i agree, if you don't like it don't look at it.
i personally, think overweight people are the source of their own problems. if they complain about it constantly, their fault. unless they have a medical diesease. thats different. but just from eating too much, its ridiculous. if you embrace it, then great, good for you. but don't complain about your own eating habits.
but, i also don't wanna see your fat butt squished into a pair of too short too tight shorts with a camisole that lets it all hang out, and your black lacy bra showing. its tacky and you look trashy. but that applies for anyone. you look stupid when people see your underwear. ha, thats why they make strapless bras.

EXACTLY!!!! Seeing anyone's bra straps, pantie waistbands, etc. is gross and trashy! It doesn't look FLATTERING on anyone of any size. Just for the record, I myself am FAT, by my own hand, but I wasn't always. However, that doesn't change my opinion of what's decent and what's not. I don't let my underwear show now and I didn't 100 lbs ago, either!

Okay, so i think its awesome that plus sized models can have a go at being in magazines but I'm kind of pissed off that people keep calling them curvy. Fat is not curvy. You can be a size 2 or 4 and still be curvy. Curvy has to do with how big your hips are, how small your waist is - curvy is all about the hour glass figure! The boobs, the ass, the waist - a size 2 can be curvy, its about your body type! Eva Longoria probably weighs less then Paris Hilton but she has a gorgeous, healthy curvy figure (unlike the praymantis hilton chick who has a little, lanky boys figure with boobs).

UGH Thank you very much!!! I'm so sick of seeing 'plus size' people, and they're average. That model is tall and skinny with a bit of post baby fat. Get a tummy tuck and she could be on the cover of cosmo with the rest of the skinny people! size 14-16W starts at being plus sized! Nothing below that!

Hey Dumbass Mel,
The problem with your comment is that this model is 21 years old AND SHE DOESN'T HAVE ANY CHILDREN!! So get your facts straight before you say stupid stuff!! That is NOT post baby fat!! SHE HASN'T HAD A BABY!!
I HATE stupid people!! I would MUCH rather be fat than stupid!!

Lizzy Miller is a little overweight....not much and I wouldn't call her a "plus size." Average maybe. The itsly bitsy pooch and bigger than "average" thighs are nothing to worry about for me. I'm still VERY turned on by her and think she is beautiful and very sexy. Beth Ditto on the other hand is just plain unhealthy. I'm very very turned OFF by her looks. Maybe her personality is great but, she needs to loose some weight, a lot of weight.

Lizzi Miller a Plus Size? I don't think so! She looks like a healthy, attractive woman who exercises without being obsessive (I think hard, muscle-draped women aren't attractive in the least), and probably splurges once in a while on an ice cream cone. In other words, she looks like a lot of us. I'm almost 50, and it's A LOT harder to maintain my weight now. So as long as I'm within my healthy weight range, I'm good with it. And so is my husband. If you can maintain a ultra-low body fat weight, so be it, but most of us just aren't made that way. And if Bolt8184, above, thinks a size 12 is a Plus Size, then she either isn't old enough to shop outside the juniors department, or just plain obsessive. Fat is fat, but Lizzi isn't!

dude, shop at maurices. i love thier clothes!!!!!!!! yes, i do shop in thier extended sizes line but do remember they sell junior sizes. depending on the cut, i'm a size 0 ( equal to size 14 in womens) and sometimes a 1 (equal to size 16/18 in womens) depending on the cut, but their clothes are to cute and help me love my curvy figure. so just shut up about the waif look and skinny girls, just wear cute clothes that are appropriate for the situation and you'll be fine.

I am not embracing this, how about a normal weight, not fat, not thin, just normal. We sit here and weirdly embrace being fat, then lecture others on smoking, diabetes, etc, it makes no sense to me. She needs a few crunches, too young for a gut .

Actually, she wasn't that small - she was normal and had cellulite and a flabby tummy and arms and had some plastic surgery on her chin etc when she got into her 30s - she was just a normal sized woman like the rest of us - it was her calibrated schitck that propelled her sex image, a calculated way she created on her own in order to get attention from males that ended up never filling that empty spot from not feeling loved by her absent father...something a lot of women do - fake boobs, heavy makeup, overly flirtatious and sexual, attempting to get attention from males - sad....Weight should be according to your natural body type and within healthy guidelines - neither too thin, nor too fat. That's it in a nutshell.

Kudos to them. However, don't turn around and blast thin women - I was teased mercilessly for being too thin - it's not different, we're born with what we're born with. And I think when they changed the actual size to size down on the tags in order to appease people, that's about when sz 12/14 which was previously 16/18 - got labeled "plus size" - I don't really know, but I think we need to embrace ALL sizes and quit projecting onto the thin women when it wasn't their doing in the first place. It was the fashion industry for ease of fit and what they deemed to look better in clothes - it has nothing to do with truth. And thin women definitely have curves too - not just thicker women.
