Eva Mendes looked a little worse for the wear last evening at the Venice Film Festival.

The normally impeccable 35 year old actress hit the red carpet with some major under eye puffiness, exacerbated by the concealer and foundation she caked on to cover it up.

Whether her baggage was the result of the 12 hour flight from Los Angeles to Venice or an all night bender, we'll never know.

But we do know that there are beauty tricks to fake a full night of zzz's. Check out these tips from What Not To Wear's makeup expert Carmindy on wearing makeup that'll wake you up.

Beauty Basics: Wakeup Makeup

Did you have a late night, or are you feeling (and looking) ragged after a busy day? No need to wear your exhaustion on your face. With Carmindy's five easy makeup tricks, you'll look like you got your full 8 hours of sleep -- even when you've been burning the midnight oil.

    Mat Swajkos for AOL

    Under Eye Concealer
First, cover dark shadows with under eye concealer. Apply it directly to the dark spot, at the inside corner of the eyes.

    Mat Swajkos for AOL

    Shimmer Under Browbone
To visually open up the eyes, slick a little highlighter on the brow bones just beneath the eye brows. This makeup artist trick draws light to the area, making your eyes look more awake.

    Mat Swajkos for AOL

    Shimmer At Inner Corners
Sticking with the shimmer, now apply it to the inner corners of the eyes. Another light trick, this tactic draws light to the inside of the eye, erasing redness and making the eyes appear more open.

    Mat Swajkos for AOL

    Blue Eye Liner
Now, apply a navy blue eye liner to the inner rims of the lower eye lids. Use a waterproof, pencil liner. The blue pigment makes the whites of the eyes appear clearer and whiter, and offsets any redness at the lower lids.

    Mat Swajkos for AOL

    Pink Blush
Brighten the face with a dusting of pink blush high on the apples, just beneath the eyes. This will give you a fresh flushed look, like you just came in from a jog.

    Mat Swajkos for AOL

    Final Look
With a few quick, easy tricks, you can wakeup your look in no time.

KLORANE CORNFLOWER EYE PATCHES WORK AMAZING! YOU PEEL THEM OFF, STICK THEM UNDER YOUR EYES FOR 20 MINUTES.....AND YOU CAN FEEL THE SKIN TIGHTENING. THEY'RE A LITTLE PRICEY, BUT THEY'RE WORTH IT!

So what Eva has a few bags! she is still beautiful and she is only human. for goodness sakes, she is a celebrity. no one see how horrible we look when our human flaws show because we are not a celebrity with camera following us everywhere we go. to me, it shows that she is just like the rest of us. you cant look impeccable all of the time that does not mean she is not the person we are used to seeing. i'm a very attractive beautiful woman too, and i know how it is for people to watch you all of the time but i have my days when i might look just like everyone else. i don't think it was fair to say this about her. for those of you who wrote this article on Ms Mendes, i'd like to see how good you look at a moments notice after being up for 12 hrs past your bed time!

I agree with the folks who find the criticism over the top and unnecessary.
We slam women for being superficial and then when someone has imperfect HUMAN attributes, like under eye puffiness, or bloat, we slam them again, worse, we try to humiliate them by insinuating it might have been from an all night bender. How low class to even bother with such "enquirer" rag-ish nonsense.

She's a gorgeous woman, "bags" and all.

Let's stop kicking women in the ovaries and with trying to make women into stepford engineered/plastic models.

Though...I wonder what the person who wrote the article looks like?
Ever had a day when you just didn't look your best?
Ever been "puffy"? If you've got youth on your side, baby, it's fleeting. You better have more to bank on than sub par acerbic comments and the superficial.

How grotesque have we become that we at once both worship and wish to crucify people in the entertainment industry?

I have tried every product on the market to reduce my undereye circles. I now have light and dark blotchy skin under my eyes, not only because these products are harsh, but also because it is impossible to keep these products on evenly since eyes tear thoroughout the day and night. The adhesive in patches can be irritating thus damaging the skin.

Smoking, alcohol, and extreme dieting exacerbates undereye circles.

Never take supplements without first consulting your doctor or pharmacist.

I get such a kick out of the "tips" piece about where to place the shimmer, the blue pencil on the bottom inner portion of the eyelid, etc. ROFL! If you are not the youthful young things they use in these silly ads, who have no bags, dark circles and are all of about--uh...19 years old, and you have bags under your eyes, no amount of makeup or sleep will do much for you. Just live with it and realize you aren't a kid anymore and let go of the vanity already. Maybe we should start devoting some space to developing inner beauty!

She always has bags and is a little puffy- I assume it is hereditary. I have a similiar problem. Often times Latino and Mediterrian decent people suffer from it. God forbid this is a subject for the news.... Eva has bags and jetlag....Read all about it! No wonder celebs turn to drugs and alcohol abuse!

I'm sorry but this is silly. She is freaking gorgeous and believe it or not *gasp* she's human!

Whose idea was it to do a story on Eva's puffy undereyes? What, did you think this would make average women feel better about themselves by putting her down? How silly.

Eva, Eva, Eva......here's a models trick that EVERYONE knows about. For puffy eyes, dab a little Preparation H around them before you LIGHTLY apply make-up. It's an anti-imflamatory medication and it works like a CHARM!

This woman is very beautiful. At times, we ALL don't look 100%. I want the photographers, aka stalkers, to post thier own pictures so the public can pick all the flaws out ofthem.

Under eye BAGS??? OH NO!!!!! What has happened to our society? Why do we care so much about those on television? Are they super human? Do they have something that we don't have other than a career in acting? I don't understand the worlds obsession with celebrity.
