For Anya Hindmarch, spring 2010 sprang from a palette inspiration.
"The season is all about color, specifically colors from an image of a fashion bikini I found from the 1950s," said Anya Hindmarch.
The result is a collection dominated in white, nude, stone, rich navy and accented with pops of tangerine and fuchsia. Referring to the two latter colors Hindmarch said, "It's great to have upbeat things, but tan is a wonderful staple. And, the stone color we use is a skin color that is easy to wear with everything."
The carefree spirit of the Fifties led to more casual hobos and shoulder bags, including the stand-out bag of the season – Gracie.
Gracie is a new shoulder bag silhouette with pleating detail all around and two shoulder straps made from chain, leather and leather barrel inlay. This handbag, and others in the spring 2010 collection, is crafted in butter-soft, new calf and will be available in black and tan ($825).
"I wanted something soft and light. I'm obsessed with light bags! This leather will slouch with age and even the color will morph as you wear it." Hindmarch also went on to point out that she feels the handbag market will be dominated, once again, with loose silhouettes that are "less uptight and formal".
In addition to Gracie and the use of new leathers, Hindmarch has introduced a "hands-free" group of bags that, for the first time, will be branded with custom gold hardware on the back. The youthful, hands-free selection of mini messengers, although diminutive in size, are outfitted with the signature Anya Hindmarch labeled pockets including the Handsfree Pleated Panels bag which has a front turn-lock pouch for "lip gloss" and a back zip pocket for "glasses."
