THE SCOOP: For his Spring 2010 collection J. Mendel designer Gilles Mendel took his typically gauzy confections to a more organic level with curved seams and intricate cut work atop structured fabrics, inspired by the swooping lines of artist Noriko Ambe, and the viscerally natural work of artist Tara Donovan. The hair and makeup was equally soft but strong; gauzy waves tumbled around a face structured with tonal pastels. "We did clean, pretty nudes that conveyed strength," said Brown. Because the hair and dresses are so stunning, we kept the makeup simple." The 'do was awe-inspiring: Gilbert created a chaotic whirl of fuzzy curls, with a round, fluid shape. "This look is very feminine," she said, "It's not feminine-frilly; rather it's feminine with a modern twist."

Hello, Pretty: This may be one of the most gorgeous looks we've ever seen. Photo: Laura Kenney
GET THE LOOK - MAKEUP: "The face is very nude; the makeup is perfectly applied to make it look like they're not wearing anything," said Brown. She did a softly diffused smoky brown eye using Bone Eyeshadow on the lower lids and Mink Eyeliner in the creases. "I applied smoky color to the lower lids and fanned it out at the corners, which is a new direction for smoky eyes that I'm seeing at all the shows," said Brown. Call it the "bottom smoky eye." The lids were finished off with Extreme Party Mascara. She flushed the rest of the face with pretty pink - Nude Pink Lipstick and Soft Pink Flush Blush.
GET THE LOOK - HAIR: Spritz Moroccanoil Luminous Hair Spray (previewed at Fashion Week and available in December) on locks to increase holding power, before curling small sections of hair from roots to ends using a 1/2 inch curling iron. After each section has been curled and cooled, run Moroccanoil Intense Curl Cream through the wave as you separate them with your fingers. Next, flip hair upside down and tease it at the roots using a natural bristle paddle brush. Spray with Moroccanoil Luminous Hair Spray and keep teasing until you reach your desired volume.
GET THE LOOK - NAILS: Tips remained neutral in Dashing Diva Nail Polish in Charlotte's Wedding, a soft, filmy white.
