Sendak Style - We Tell You 'Where The Wild Things Are'

We may be total suckers for movies inspired by fashion (see "Sex and the City" and "Coco Before Chanel"), but we're also pretty darn fond of fashion inspired by the big screen.

Hence our latest obsession, "Where the Wild Things Are," the Spike Jonze-directed film adaptation of Maurice Sendak's beloved 1963 children's book.

And while we'll be munching on popcorn on opening night (October 16) like everyone else, it's the film's influence on the fashion world that we're really excited about.

From furry playsuits to sneakers to clawed jewelry, designers are letting their imaginations run wild with these Sendak-inspired creations.

Urban Outfitters' "Where the Wild Things Are" Pop-Up Shop: Space 15 Twenty has spawned a collection of big-kid character tees as well as avant-garde costumes from Christian Joy, color block skirts from indie designer Mary Meyer and graphic tees by Geoff Mcfetridge, who designed the graphics for the movie.
Opening Ceremony: The purveyor of all things hip didn't pull any punches for its Spike Jonze collaboration, recreating Max's furry one-piece wolf suit (complete with tail) for adults, plus beastly faux fur jackets and claw-and-crown jewelry from NYC jewelry designer Pamela Love.
Lakai: Give your kicks a Sendak twist with these "Where the Wild Things Are" sneakers; available in gray or black and detailed with inky striations and assorted woodland creatures.

Roadkill: Add some beastly bling with this Etsy designer's sterling silver pendant homage to Carol, which comes on a chain so you can keep the big lug close to your heart.
Persimmon Jewelry: Want more bite? Check out this Where the Wild Things Are necklace, a spiky row of sharp white turquoise fangs.
