Lindsay Lohan Debuts Emanuel Ungaro Collection, Critics Roll Their Eyes

Less than a month ago, drama-addicted starlet Lindsay Lohan was appointed "Artistic Advisor" of the 45-year-old French fashion house, Emanuel Ungaro, alongside little-known designer Estrella Archs. And now the results of the odd coupling are in.

"Call the fashion police!" famed art director Fabien Baron exclaimed to The New York Times' Eric Wilson upon watching the runway presentation of Ungaro's Spring 2010 collection at Paris Fashion Week yesterday. (Both Lohan and Archs took post-show bows.)

According to Wilson, the other high-profile editors were speechless, left so "aghast" at the sight of models in too-tight dresses and wearing heart-shaped sequined pasties over their breasts, that many gave only minimal applause before running for the exits.

Hemlines were sky-high and there were draped harem pants paired with skimpy bandeau tops, tuxedo jackets paired with the aforementioned pasties, and, naturally for anything associated with LiLo, second-skin leggings. A couple pretty asymmetrical dresses filled out the collection.

While there were shots of Ungaro's signature fuchsia, references to the house's rich history ended there.

Ungaro's new dream team: "chief designer" Estrella Archs and platinum blonde "artistic advisor" Lindsay Lohan (in some of her freebie Ungaro duds).

We can totally picture Lindsay in this itsy-bitsy bandeau top paired with '80s print white leggings.

Hello, spring! A neon pink tuxedo jacket worn with heavily ruched carrot-colored leggings and a cut-off ponytail worn as a clutch?

Is it fall or is it spring? Can't really tell. This one-armed dress was actually one of the most elegant in the collection.

All she needs is a bottle of Pepto-Bismol as an accessory.

The baggy skirt-pants (skants?), two-tone jacket and gathered bandeau complete with heart detail, an obvious nod to Moschino with a dash of Giorgio Armani.

So, just what did Miss Lohan end up "advising" on exactly?

"It's incredible. Estrella and I are doing amazing things," a confident Lohan told The Sunday Telegraph pre-show. "Working with Estrella and the team at Ungaro is a dream come true. Fashion is one of my favorite things in the world and this is the best week of my life."

Despite Lohan being billed as an "advisor" only, and confirmed that role to The Telegraph, there have been mixed messages that she's designing.

She told the paper that she and her sister were sewing the headbands that the models were going to be wearing in the show (we didn't see any headbands, just more sequined pasties stuck to foreheads), and on September 29 she reportedly Tweeted to Miley Cyrus: "Will you be in Paris this week? Would you like to come to the Emanuel Ungaro show for the new collection I've designed...? Xo."

It's this faux-designer status, along with Lohan's questionable fashion abilities overall, that's really getting fashion editors' pants in a knot.

But Ungaro CEO Mounir Moufarrige, who appointed Lohan to the post, doesn't seem to care about the bad press, telling The Times that he was surprised that the press wasn't even more negative.

He also readily admits that he hired Lohan to drum up publicity and to give the fading brand a sort of "electric shock treatment" of relevance.

Apparently, part of this treatment includes letting the actress have her pick of Ungaro's inventory to hopefully don during one of her many Starbucks runs, club appearances or red carpet outings.

"It's part of the deal," Moufarrige told WWD after confirming that Lohan had scooped up $150,000 worth of clothing from Ungaro's Parisian flagship store. "What do you want, for her to be naked? I'm just so glad she likes Ungaro."

There are always going to be completely bad pictures of just about everybody. Judging by the picture which brings you to this article, one has rock solid proof that without make-up to soften their complexions, and hairsyles to give their features some contour, The Lohans amount to nothing more than a bunch of bridge painters who've been out in the elements too long. Without all of the embellishments to make them LOOK like something, they then look as though they belong in the back cab of some truckers rig.

I've never understood the need for "fashion designers" anyway..... nearly everything they create is ridiculed it seems, and is never functional, more pieces are unattractive than good-looking, and nobody ever wears them. Besides, normally prices for those kind of names are ridiculous.... and you get less material for the dollar than a pair of jeans at K-mart....

Given the "righteous indignation" and disdain from some attendees, perhaps Lohan's most grievous sin is bringing forth designs that only a fit 20 year old can wear. With other designs ones with fuller figures can cope; not much elbow room here. Maybe *that* could be a reason for some of the hostility as well.
Seriously, the designs are very colorful, and, if you've been paying attention, reflect, to some degree, what she's been seen in over the past few years. For my part, an interesting fashion attempt. Some different and smart items. Glad for the first foray, Ms. Lohan.

.....ew.... I'm not normally a critic of fashion, but there was hardly an outfit that didn't make my face grimace. I'm sorry...but these are horrendous.

Actually. I liked most all the fashion... not bad. Not really. & Kuddo's to Lindsey for stepping up & giving it a shot. I thought she did well. Very well. It's the negative press that made it sound worse than it really was...BOO Pooparazzi!!! You bite.

Well...disgusting and hideous are the best descriptions I can muster --- however, they focused on knocking Lindsey and not all of the designers at the show. They were all just as bad, a couple of designers were even worse. Ann Taylor was the only one with a decent spring line up..very sad. I can't imagine anyone..and I mean ANYONE wearing the crap they're trying to call style. For the last 10 years -these shows have been copying off of really bad sci fi 'b' films from the 80's. I think the question now becomes -- who's on crack to be coming up with this stuff??

LIndsay is a hell of a lot better looking than these rail thin, no hair models and that's not saying much. Why do women always have to screw with there natural beauty. Lindsay is a pretty redhead and she goes blond. To all you women that think you have to change your bodies etc., keep the natural beauty that was given to you.

You're right, fashipn is art, but it is wearable art, meant to make women beautiful and proud to be seen in it. Couture dresses run in the thousands of dollars each, and there is no way that I would ever spen 25 dollars on a single piece from that show, much less designer prices. Theis whole show was a terrible mstake, and I hope he gets his head together and his next collection is much more wearable.

The haute couture presented on the runways at these showings is always over the top and not what you would actually see on actual customers--the stuff show in this Ungaro collection, with the assistance of Lohan is certainly tame compared to much of what is presented. The designers are showing their interpretations of what they see as trends in colors, textures and silhoettes. Once those are again interpreted by ready to wear designers, you will see something that might be worn by someone who loves the newest thing, the avant garde. Eventually, a few seasons down the road, there would be some distant reinterpretation in your local Macy's. And trust me, no one is ever going to put anything like this at Walmart--so most of you don't have to worry.

Oh dear, heart pasties for everything....she must have missed her deadline, waited until the last minute while chugging vodka and decided some pasties would be cute. That stupid black sequined heart just looks like laziness to me. They were "sewing" the headbands, her and her sister? It figures. Now that she's got Ali on the bandwagon as her partner in crime, who knows what she will do next. Obviously she's still not working, but getting paid for this silliness.

ungaro is completley shameless these days. anything to get a blink at the brand. to anyone who follows fashion...why do you think he gifted fashiontoast blogger all those free duds and invited her to his show for fall?...so she would shamelessly blog about how awesome the line was in return!!! not because she ever would have worn the line before or because its something special, she just has public attention and and it was part of the "deal".
