Beauty Basics - Stars in Eyeliner

Eyeliner has staged a major come back, from the cat eye to the heavily lined smoky eye.

And Hollywood is along for the ride. Celebrities are loading their lash lines with liquid, pencil and shadow liners in all sorts of shades.

At the launch party for Matthew Williamson's collection for H&M, Micha Barton channeled the 60s with a modern take on the mod eye.

TIP: If you have large eyes like Barton, you can start lining all the way at the inside corner and lightly sweep the pencil on in small dashes. Get as close to the roots as possible.

TIP: Creating a little wing of liner at the outer corner of the eye looks great on larger eyes. Just hold the side of your eye taut, and use your eyeliner pencil to extend the line a little bit up and out. Then, go over the line with your angled brush to smooth it out.

TIP: Pencil eyeliner can look harsh on the lower lash line, because it's really hard to blend down. For a soft look like the Olsens' use a flat, angled brush and a little bit of shimmery, gunmetal eye shadow. It goes on soft and smoldering and looks a lot more sophisticated.

TIP: Use a powder eye shadow and an angled brush to create a soft effect at the upper and lower lash lines. For more concentrated color, wet the brush before dipping it in the eye shadow.
