Sharon Stone's Basic Instinct Told Her to Try a New Hairstyle, and We Love It

Sharon Stone has had many notable hairstyles, but this new cut in particular (left) caught our eye for one very important reason: It took 10 years off of her face.

Not that the gorgeous star needs but help in the beauty department, as "Basic Instinct" turned Sharon Stone into a sex symbol for life.

Still, as she's gotten older Stone has cropped her hair shorter and shorter, and the stiff, swept-back looks (right) and short, spiky hairstyles we've seen her in were severe and aging.

Thankfully, Stone was recently seen in this chin-length bob (left) with youthful, side-swept bangs that frame her face -- far more forgiving than her past looks.

See Sharon Stone looking fabulous over 50, and other stars who've aged beautifully:

Sexy Stars in their 50's
These Hollywood women have maintained impeccable figures and fabulous faces well into their 50's. Take a look at Sharon Stone and other gorgeous 50+ celebs.

Sexy Stars in their 50s

    Sardinia, August 28, 2009
Life is just a day at the beach for Actress Sharon Stone, who frolics in Sardinia on a pal's yacht. If we look this good in a bikini at 51, we'll be happy!

    Ciao Pix/INFphoto.com

Again, Stone shows off her fabulous curves--this time in a white Hervé Léger bandage gown. The 51-year-old actress and activist didn't even getting around to adopting her three sons until her 40s, and she still looks like she can keep up with moms half her age.

Alberto E. Rodriguez, Getty Images for AFI

Thirty-one years after her debut on Dallas, 59 year old former Playboy model Victoria Principal looks trim and healthy while strolling on the beach in Malibu, CA, on March 26th, 2009. The Daily Mail reports that Principal is getting in shape for next year's inaugural flight of Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic -- she paid £100,000 to be one of the world's first space tourists. Space mission or not, we certainly think Victoria looks out of this world.

    Mike, Fame Pictures

While everyone (including Oprah herself) has been giving the 55 year-old media mogul a hard time about her weight these past few months we think no matter your size nothing is more sexy than confidence. Chic dress, amazing bag, perfect oversized sunglasses and this season's dreamiest pair of Christian Louboutin heels, this birthday girl knows how to work her 50s! Click on for more women who are 50 and Fab.

    Jeff Vespa, Getty Images

Even at 54, supermodel Iman still has the swan neck -- and the swan-like grace -- that once made Yves Saint Laurent declare, "My dream woman is Iman." Thirty years after she lit up the catwalks, the model and businesswoman -- shown here at a New York fundraiser last fall -- dazzles with or without her arm-candy hubby, David Bowie.

    Charles Eshelman, FilmMagic

It's been more than 15 years since Michelle Pfeiffer scorched movie screens as the super-sexy Catwoman in "Batman Returns." But we're willing to bet that, at nearly 53, she can still slink into her black catsuit. Meeee-yow!

    Steve Granitz, Getty Images

From virgin to tramp and every geisha, cowgirl and wife-of-a-South-America-dictator in between, it's close to impossible to keep up with the endless incarnations of Madonna (shown performing last December in Miami). But one thing remains unchanged: her staggering ability to grow stronger and more toned with each passing year. Another case of "Benjamin Button"? Sorry, couch potatoes. Those sinewy limbs are a testament to the 50-year-old singer's devotion to cardio, Pilates and macrobiotic eating.

    Alexander Tamargo, WireImage

Sure, she went through the sort of divorce last summer that would have sent the rest of us diving into bags of Chips Ahoy and vats of Eddy's Slow Churned Triple Chocolate. But, at 54, model, activist and milk spokeswoman Christie Brinkley is every bit as gorgeous as she was in her days as a Sports Illustrated swimsuit cover girl.

Over the last few years, Jamie Lee Curtis has made a second career out out "true thighs" -- proving that all those ultra-glam magazine images of women over 40 are the result of skillful airbrushing and the right underwear, not good genes. But, with or without her Spanx, the 50-year-old actress and author -- shown at an LA awards luncheon last year -- looks uber-chic to us.

    Stephen Shugerman, Getty Images

Yes, we know she can act the hell out of 30-something (or is it 40-something?) Samantha Jones. But we think actress Kim Cattrall looks even more smashing when she acts her own age. (Sssssh! It's 52, but she won't mind if you say she looks 42.)

I have always been very afraid of aging, you know, becoming old and useless and unattractive. When I turned 50, I decided to do something about it. I've spent fortunes on face creams and anti-aging serums… but using GenFX is the first time I've tried turning back the clock from the inside out. It's also the last time I'll spend a fortune on face creams! Now everyone says I look 35!

I was lucky enough to never have been overweight in my life. That all ended after the birth of my second child. I got down to 20 pounds over my normal weight but no matter what I did I couldn't lose the rest. I didn't know if was age catching up with me or if somehow my metabolism changed. Whatever the reason, nothing was working. I tried all the bogus "diet" pills that we see all over the internet, but are just scams. All I ever lost with that stuff was money. One of my friends, knowing what I was going through, told me that she had been losing weight using a special plan http://bit.ly/FatLoss4You It laid out the facts in a way I never saw before and had easy to follow meal plans and diets. Not only have I lost the weight and kept it off but I'm leading a healthier lifestyle, mostly from the knowledge I gained from this amazing program.

What an awesome example these mature ladies set. I dare 60% of women to walk around in bathing suits or bikinis. I can tell you that the easiest and cheapest way to look good is to lose weight. Lookin' good like these celebs is well worth the effort. I lost 47 pounds in 6 weeks using the Rapidthin diet at www.rapidthin.com. Good luck to all. Use what works for you.

I am a hairdresser and this haircut is terrible for her. It is not shaped well and it draws the lines of her face down. It ages her not makes her look younger. As we get older we need to frame the face with a style that lifts the lines of out face.

the women posters on this thread are correct: the straight, pageboy cut on the left makes Sharon Look MUCH OLDER. The left Sharon Stone looks like she is in her late 50s. The hair dresser agrees in her professional opinion. The writer (Melissa Gold) of this article couldn't be more wrong, can't she see what us other women see? Ms Gold should write about something she knows about, certainly not hair styles.

You should get over there and buy something for yourself or someone special.

Sharon Stone would look beautiful in a babuska -- forget about her hair! I should look as good as she does on her worst day! I loved her hair really short in a pixie because she has such great facial features....

Sharon is going to look hot with no hair, short hair, or long hair. That girl is just naturally hot ! Will be at 60, 70, or 80. Just a class act .
