Gray Hair Cure Available in 10 Years, Says L'Oreal

"I'm gonna wash that gray right outta my hair." Photo: Corbis

According to L'Oreal, we could all be kissing our gray hairs adieu in a mere 10 years.

The beauty company is working on a breakthrough treatment geared towards ending gray hair for good. They expect it to consist of an oral element backed by a hair care range, and be available within 10 years, reported the Daily Mail.

Hair gets its hue from melanocytes, pigment cells that give color to both the skin and the hair.

"When hair goes gray, there is a progressive disappearance of the melanocytes from the hair. While there are still melanocytes in the hair, there is still hope that it could be re-pigmented," Patricia Pineau, L'Oreal Research Communications Director told the paper.

"Hair is an enigma," she added. "It's a fiber, a material with physical properties. It is also a living organ that grows, grays and falls out. How can we fight this? Do we need a physical approach or a biological approach?"

An oral program supplemented with a hair care program would do both, targeting graying from both the inside and out.

A top focus of the beauty company's since it was founded over 100 years ago, L'Oreal spends over £581 million pounds last year on research -- about twice as much as its competitors.

Why would you ever want to stifle silver hair? It is healthy and it is gorgeous! More chemicals in our bodies to be something we aren't? Sounds like Madison Avenue trying to come up with a new angle to make us invisible. SilverVixens.com is dedicated to letting the world know that women who are finally old enough to have silver hair have all the money AND influence more than 80% of the buying decisions. How did L'Oreal miss that?????

I heartily endorse this all natural product and recommend it to all my patients: Http://tinyurl.com/hairlossstop Almost 90% of patients using the formulation noted a complete arresting of their hair loss progression.
After researching the various treatment options available for androgenic alopecia, it is my opinion that only three classes of substances have been clinically proven to prevent and/or reverse hair loss: minoxidil, Super Oxide Dismutase, and the antiandrogens. I have reviewed recent studies of Provillus ( Http://tinyurl.com/hairlossstop ) and noted a very high success ratio. Almost 90% of patients using the formulation at the recommended dosage noted a complete arresting of their hair loss progression. Of these patients, 50% demonstrated an aesthetically meaningful change in the caliber of their hair. These are very positive findings indeed. After reviewing this research as well as clinical notes taken from patients followed at Advance Restoration Technologies, I am comfortable this formula presents an extremely safe track record in those using the product formulation at recommended dosage levels. These facts impressed me. Provillus is an exciting, new, naturally based, antiandrogen that has been added to our medical armamentarium for hair loss prophylaxis.

BONNIE PRICE.....................MOST women, me included, look at GRAY hair, as a sign of getting OLD!!! Gray hair, is the same as silver hair. And since MOST women believe in fighting off the signs of getting old, most women color their hair in order to look younger!! Gray hair?? On me?? Over my dead body!! Beauty products are a billion dollar business in this country!! Looking younger, doesn't MAKE a person younger, but it sure beats resembling an "OLD" woman!! My mother lived to the age of 83, and I never witnessed one gray hair on her head!! And guess what? I'm gonna follow right into her footsteps!! This pill sounds kick-ass to me!!!!!

I started eating according to the Eat Right for your Blood Type Diet plan as outlined by Peter D'Adamo, and followed the Work out Principles as outlined in "Body for Life" by Bill Phillips. I started taking a natural supplement called Acai-eez BURN ( HtTP://aCAI-eeZ.COm )that really helped give me an extra energy boost, increase metabolism and digestion, as well as helped me burn fat! I went gray in my early 20's, as did my sister and my neice. Must be heredity. I would be willing to give it a try when it hits the market. So tired of coloring my hair.

I'm with you. I have been dying my hair since I am 12 because that is when my hair started to go gray. It was unfortunately inherited. Now I am in the salon like clockwork every 4 weeks. Imagine the money I have spent on this over the years. I am now 34. I am so tired of having to keep up with it and would gladly at the least, look into this.

I wonder if this pill will return color to our skin as well? Once the skintone begins to fade, the natural color hair will look harsh unless we get some form of pigment rejuvination in our skin.

I agree totally with you, I love my silver hair. It is best thing I have ever done, stop coloring my hair. I wish that everyone would quit trying to make us feel bad about aging.
This is the best time of my life!

I bet it makes your eye color stand out.

My mother-in-law bleached her hair a blonde color and she was in her 70's and it wasn't until she had heart surgery and let her hair go white that she realized how beautiful she looked. Her blue eyes really stood out and her natural color looked so much prettier than the blonde she used to color it.

There already is a hair color cure. Gray hair is just a nutritional deficiency of copper. Just add copper to your diet and call me in the morning. :)

I am 54 and a natural red-head (at least, I was!). I colored my hair from the time I was 29 until this past June--at first to enhance the red, and then to get rid of the gray. But in June, I decided to go gray! I shaved my head, and what has grown in since then is beautiful, auburn and gray hair, lighter in the front, and still copper in the back. WHY did I color my hair when I could have been enjoying such LOVELY GRAYING HAIR! I look younger than before, too. Go figure!

The best thing that I have done for my hair skin and nails is eat FLAX! http://www.fitflax.com I started eating fitflax purely for weight loss, and found it also made my skin glow and my hair thicker and glossier cause of the omega 3's. I
recently lost 40 pounds by being more aware every day of how many calories I consume and making them worthwhile calories. I have a low fat yogurt with golden roasted fitflax (nutty/low carb/low cal). It is a flax and chia seeds blend and was written about on a health board. It tastes nutty (kinda like peanut butter) and does not need to be ground. I still have more to lose, but the goal is healthy with curves and looking in my early 30's when I am in my 40's!!

Though my hair is thicker, the fitflax did not do anything to make my greys disappear...oh well!

Dear L'Oreal:

Perhaps you research team should spend less time in the lab and more time in the real world.

There are 78 million baby boomers between the ages of 38 and 57. They are America's largest generation.

The growing trend to embrace the natural and be our real selves is a force that is not going away.

We don't want your dye bottles. We don't want your pills.

Need proof? There's a group of women from all around the world, inspired by Diana Lewis Jewell's book "Going Gray, Looking Great!". These thousands of women are breaking through the "gray wall" everyday on goinggraylookinggreat.com.

Show us you REALLY are in touch and create products specifically for those of us who CHOOSE to fabulously silver!

Wake up & see the silver!

Gray hair is not a symptom of copper deficiancy ! it is dangerous to take more than 10 mg a day..

Given the American diet, it is likely that most people get enough copper, which is plentiful in such foods as beans, shellfish, organ meats and nuts.

The only exceptions would be certain rare underlying medical conditions that might prevent normal copper absorption.

Copper overdoses can cause serious problems such as liver damage, kidney failure, coma, and death. Early symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, problems with coordination or movement, and sleepiness. There may also be behavioral problems, such as trouble concentrating or emotional disturbances. you should take 8-15 mg of zinc for every 1 mg of copper
