Q: What's a good shirt style for this time of year for a new mom who has a smidge (OK, more than a smidge) of extra belly that I'm still getting rid of? I have a hard time finding shirts that aren't too fitted but aren't too flowy either.

A:
If you are looking for something to hide any extra bits, try a tunic. A good tunic creates an A-line shirt style that compliments your top half (i.e. the ample bosom associated with new mommy-hood) while flaring away from the belly so that you have some breathing room. Here are some examples from ShopStyle.com.

The thing to avoid is flair at the top and the bottom. That's not great for anyone. This isn't 1976. If you're opting for a tunic top, try for a comfortable but slightly tapered pant to create a balance between your top and bottom halves.

Another option is to go for jeans with a T-shirt or tank top, and wait for it...a long boxy boyfriend blazer! If you're feeling particularly adventurous, throw on a pair of sturdy leggings or tights underneath and the blazer can function as a dress.
