Sharon Stone headed to exclusive Italian eatery and event space Cipriani in NYC last night for the 8th Annual Elton John AIDS Foundation benefit.

The star wore a Dior haute couture off-shoulder gown made from sheer tulle, with a white corset-like top and sheer black skirt bottom.

However, when she showed up for the event with her dressed covered up (in a Dior leather coat, of course) the total effect of the outfit changed from haute couture to just ... haute confusing.

The head-to-toe look started with her famous blonde locks tucked into a black fedora, followed by a pop of red lipstick (how dramatic!).

Next, Stone wore a belted black leather Dior trench, which, while fierce, left the bottom half of her lovely gown conspicuously exposed.

Better to have skipped the jacket at hat and let the dress speak for itself, Sharon!
