Former Miss Argentina Dies from Buttocks Plastic Surgery Complications

A cosmetic procedure to have her buttocks sculpted has ended in tragedy for a model and former beauty queen.

Solange Magnano, who won the title of Miss Argentina in 1994, died Sunday at the age of 38 following complications from a gluteoplasty procedure, Sky News reports.

The procedure -- which inserts implants into the buttocks to make them more shapely -- took a nasty turn when a liquid injection reportedly made its way to Magnano's lungs and brain, according to the news agency (though StyleList's plastic surgery experts are questioning the validity of this detail, stating that it "sounds made up by someone unfamiliar with the surgery.").

What's definite is that Magnano was rushed to the hospital with a pulmonary embolism -- in which a blood clot blocks blood flow to the lungs -- and passed away two days later.

"She only underwent the procedure because she thought it was no big deal," friend Guillermo Azar told Sky.

Magnano, who reportedly leaves behind a husband and eight-year-old twins, is said to have undergone the procedure at a plastic surgery clinic in Buenos Aires, causing some sources to speculate to Sky that her surgeon was not a professional.

A Facebook group has been created in tribute to the beauty.

"A woman who had everything lost her life to have a slightly firmer behind," fashion designer and friend Roberto Piazza, told the Daily Mail, adding that Magnano had enjoyed a glamorous career but had lately become obsessed with maintaining her looks.

'In 1994 she participated in Miss Universe," Piazza told the paper. "She was very successful around the world, she worked a lot in Paris."

According to Piazza, Magnano returned to Argentina, where she married and raised her young twin daughters in Cordoba. He says she began to miss her old modeling life, which sparked a fascination with plastic surgery.

Piazza also told the paper that Manano had her breasts lifted and sought out the gluteoplasty in order to remove cellulite and firm up her bottom.

"She died because of her obsession with beauty," he told the source.

At the time of her death, Magnano, who was buried yesterday in San Francisco, Argentina, had reportedly launched her own modeling agency, Actitud Models.

Meanwhile, plastic surgery is booming in Venezuela in response to the recession.

Just another example of ignorance and the lengths humans will go for glamor or "success". So sad she and others buy into it.

Everyone (with a brain) knows that every surgery has some risk to it. Too bad her looks were more important to her than her daughters.

No, not everyone knows the risks of surgery. It's informed consent for a physician to inform patient's of risk versus benefit of surgery. These bastard plastic surgeons talk patients into procedures with the reassurance of a con man and the integrity of a mass murderer. These killers can talk anyone into anything. They are at the same level of veracity as politicians. They should all rot in HELL.

As someone who gives anesthesia for a living it is a very dangerous mindset to have the attitude that any surgery is no big deal. It is all a big deal. Even the most routine of surgery. It requires extreme vigilance by all in the operating room team. Even when the procedure goes without a hitch, the unexpected can always happen. Even in the recovery room. The patients that scare me are the ones who have repeated plastic surgery procedures with the express attitude that it is no big deal.

I think that it is bull that you are a doctor. You don't have a clue as to what you are talking about. I have seen lots of plastic surgeons labor extensively to reconstruct a chest ravaged by breast cancer. Spend hours trying to fix a decubitus ulcer for a paltry medicare payment and expect no more than that. Most plastic surgeons in AMERICA take pride in their work and have the highest standards.

My prayers are with her family but ... nobody's perfect even super models have cellulite and stretch marks. I myself am a skinny girl 5'0 and 101 pounds and i have some stretch marks and just began noticing a bit of cellulite which is killing me ... But i would never go to the extreme of surgery. Not only does it hurt, but you can die trying to be perfect, when you will never be. Deal with it, do the best you can with making yourself pretty and not risking your life, and quit getting boob jobs, plastic silicone bags in your body that shouldn't even be there ... ~ :o)

The sad thing here is that no one here is going to give a care to stop doing this to themselves...I think instead of calling gay a disease they should be focusing on stupidity and its ability to spread like a virus through people of all ages, race and sizes...this whole be stick stickly skinny, blazing blonde hair, giant breasts and buttocks implants all these things are just insane...somehow the power of people telling you to change yourself is greater than those telling you that you are perfect as you are...its sad.

CyndiLou--thanks for proving that our President is damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. People such as yourself would be cynical no matter what he did. One thing is consistent about America and Americans--we will never be satisfied...and we love a good whine fest.

Disclosing the cosmetic surgery type is another way of disgracing the successful in life. We're as tired of it today as we were 20 years ago.
Exercise discretion, please.

If your guy wants you to have any type of surgery is telling you he wants someone else. If it was you he wanted he would take you as you are. Think about. If he wants boobs, he wants someone else, if it's ass, he wants someone else, if it's the face, he wants someone else. Get him an inflated doll and say, bye bye...Pathetic. I wouldn't have surgery for anyone else, and if women do it for themselves it's because they have low self esteem and should work on educating themselves or doing something meaninful to beleive in themselves. You don't even have to have a lot to believe your human as you are. When I know someone has had surgery, I no longer see them beautiful and I doubt the men do also after a while. They know it's a fake and will soon try to change someone else because they are looking for someone they don't know and trying to fix you is a start. Don't do it. You can't possible be loved if someone wants to change YOU!!!

plastic surgery is booming because of the recession... well, then obviously there is no recession, because other wise, who could afford plastic surgery? that makes no sense.

and while it's sad she died because of vanity, just imagine the embarrassment of facing "god", if such a thing exists, and having to explain to this great being how you died.

how embarrassing would it be to have to say, "i died because i wanted liquid in my butt to make them look nice." i think i'd die again of the embarrassment of having to say that to my "god".

and you know... exercise is a good way to firm and tone one's butt. as to the cellulite- they have body make up, don't they?

and she should really have looked into the qualifications of this "doctor". there may well be honest and compassionate plastic surgeons in south america, but i think i might travel else where for any kind of surgery.....
