Gluteoplasty & Butt Implants: Getting to the Butt of it All

Gluteoplasty is a procedure where implants are inserted into the buttocks to create a more shapely curve (à la Jennifer Lopez and Beyoncé). It is actually broken down into two processes that require lifting and shaping the area before injecting with fat or silicon.
Butt implants may not be a new phenomenon within the beauty industry, however, they have become increasingly popular within recent years with women and men going under the knife in hopes of awaking with the perfect tush.
And while they are definitely risks attached to any form of cosmetic surgery, experts stress that when undergoing gluteoplasty it is key to recognize and react promptly to warning signs such as clotting and swelling.
Magnano suffered from a pulmonary embolism -- in which a blood clot blocks blood flow to the lungs -- when the liquid injection traveled to the beauty queen's lungs and brain.
Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Parham Ganchi, who practices gluteoplasty in Wayne, NJ, emphasizes that while clots are rare, they can be treated. "Blood thinners can resolve the issue, and some people even get clots without ever having known it. They just feel a little weird, and the body takes care of it. That's what our bodies are made to do," said Ganchi.
