Designer Peter Soronen must have been on a fashion high last night.

Michelle Obama wowed the crowd at the Kennedy Center Honors event in a gorgeous strapless gown by the American designer.

While we loved the pleated bodice, it was the vivid purple hue that caught our eye.

The First Lady finished off her look with a swept-back updo, sparkling statement necklace and her signature stack of bangles.

A champion of under-the-radar designers since first hitting the world stage, Mrs. O has previously worn Soronen.

But compared to some of MO's other designer favorites -- Thakoon, Isabel Toledo and Jason Wu, to name a few, the Chicago native has been less buzz-worthy among the First Lady fashion mix.

We predict that's about to change.

Forget models and celebs, first ladies are the new fashion plates.
