Joan Collins Makes a Bold Shoe Choice

Joan Collins strikes a pose. Photo: Jill Johnson, jpistudios.com

Joan Collins hit the blue carpet for the 2009 Unicef Ball last night in Beverly Hills looking quite lovely.

The 76-year-old star wore a flashy silver brocade jacket, and looked years younger than her actual age with her bouncy brunette hair and strong (but flattering!) makeup.

And can we talk about those shoes?

We love, love, love that Collins chose these blinged-out gladiator sandals for her night out on the town.

Our only wish? That Collins skipped the pantyhose. There's just something about visibly stockinged feet that never quite works fashion-wise.

And yes, we realize that bare legs can be a tough proposition, so we'd recommend a closed-toe shoe with any sort of legwear, or (better yet) use a beauty workaround in place of pantyhose, like a tinted body lotion. DuWop and Perfekt make great ones.

Joan looked FANTABULOUS in the photo. I am 59 and most definitely would have worn the shoes in the exact manner!!!!!!!

Gail in MA: And you would have looked just as ridiculous! Those shoes are hideous on younger women, they're embarrassingly tasteless on anyone over 25!

Pig,
Do I sense a tinge of jealousy by Pig @ 1:18 p.m.!!! Her dam ankles are probably sooooooo fat she couldn't bend down to put the shoes on much less actually wear them!!!! Suck it up, babe. Some of us women in our older age are extremely well-preserved and can wear almost anything...the shoes happen to be one of those items!!!! (BET U WISHED U LOOKED LIKE JOAN FROM THE FACE ON DOWNWARD, HUH????) BTW, the shoes would look SUPER on younger women, opposed to hideous. Most of the time when women react the way you have towards other women, they are simply PLAIN JANES (A WANNA BE), FAT PIGS, JEALOUS BIACHES, OR ALL THREE...GET A LIFE!!!!!!!! ciao>>>>>>>>>>

I don't understand the sudden bizarre hostility some self-appointed fashionistas have generated toward pantyhose in general and pantyhosed feet and toes in particular, but I urge everyone to ignore it until it blows over.

No matter how young you are and how good your skin is, it can be improved by pantyhose, which serves a function similar to makeup - smoothing over imperfections, providing an even skin tone, enriching and flattering color, and providing an overall more polished, finished, formal, attractive, put-together look.

Hostility to this makes no more sense than hostility to makeup.

As for showing toes or feet, that's what "sandalfoot" pantyhose is FOR. You give up the extra run-protection of reinforced toes on PURPOSE, with the express intention of showing them off.

No non-pantyhose "substitute" comes close to what pantyhose actually accomplishes, any more than splashing cold water on your face and giving yourself a few smacks substitutes for blush.

Yes, garish and poorly chosen makeup or hose is a bad idea, but that's no reason to go totally bare. Collins looked terrific, and far better than she would have if she had followed the horrible advice above.

By the way, I normally don't prefer them because they don't feel particularly silky, but ToHos (think ToeHose without the E's) are a good option when you're wearing dressy shoes with a thong separating the big toe from the rest.

I don't think her dress and shoes are matchful. The shoes make her leg short. I think a red Cole Haan would be better. http://www.followsales.com/l/b/1062/sale/Cole-Haan and I find a 60% off .

All I can say is "fabUlous"....I have to tell you, I've met Joan a few times and she blows the socks off any other woman I've met in terms of style. She really is a style icon and I for one thinks she looks amazing. But not just on a physical level....she is a positive, youthful, life loving lady who squeezes all the juice life has to offer. Don't forget, she's almost 77 and still takes pride in herself. That in itself deserves a round of clapping. Good for her....I hope to have half her zest when I'm her age.

I think Joan looks great, I wish people would get off the pantyhose thing and start putting them on. Just wear the right ones ( example : white dress with white shoes and grey hose..yea right ) use your brain and wear the right color and quite listening to these retarded people like (Marissa) the one giving Joan hell. Just like the writer above would go out with out makeup, why would you want to show yor knobby knees with all kinds of veins and places on your legs with a short skirt. I would rather see you in a long dress, if you are not going to wear hose. I am sure Marissa wears them I can bet she does not have the perfect set of legs, or she would be a model and not writing this about Joan. There are many benifits to wearing hose, like better leg circulation, less spider or vein problems. Dont down the hose so quickly the DR. might prescribe them to you for such problems when you get older and I hope someone shoot's your confidence down just like you are trying to do to her...
