Taylor Swift's Straight Hair Makeover - With Bangs!

Curls, what curls?

The beauty world is buzzing about Taylor Swift's sophisticated new tresses.

The 19-year-old singer was nearly unrecognizable on Wednesday night in New York City, when she stepped out to dine at Otto, a popular Italian restaurant run by famous croc-loving chef Mario Batali. Her girlie curls were replaced with slick straight locks and thick, eye-brow skimming bangs.

This hair style is new -- just a few days before, Swift was still wearing her trademark coils at the launch of VEVO, a music-video website. Swift is in New York for tonight's Z100 Jingle Ball, where she will perform. But the singer, who is nominated for 8 Grammies and 6 AMA awards, has sported straight locks (and bangs) in the past, as witnessed by these photos from December of last year.

We wonder if her new 'do is in anticipation of her 20th birthday this Sunday (Little Taylor is alls growns ups), and if Swift will stick with this style, or if it was a one-night-wonder. The straight locks could be attained by a simple blowout, and the bangs, as a commenter JuJu postulates, below, could be a a clip-on bang extension.

If you're inspired by Swift's sleek new 'do, try straightening your own locks with our tips from celebrity hair stylist Danielle Caputo, who says that the key to a sleek style is a product cocktail.

"Mix a little bit of grooming cream with a frizz serum to infuse hair with moisture and act as a barrier against humidity," she suggests. Using your hands, apply the product cocktail from the ends up to the roots.

Hair Basics: Straightening Curly hair

Going from curly to straight seems so easy at the salon. Wish you could figure out the same steps to do it at home? Just keep reading! Celebrity Stylist Danielle Caputo shares the secrets to going perfectly sleek anytime, and it turns out that it can be as simple as switching to the right brush (skip to slide 6 for details).

Peter Buckingham for AOL

Spray Away Tangles
Start by spraying a detangler all over your head to make it easier to work products through the hair.

Peter Buckingham for AOL

Styling Lotion
Next, lightly spritz hair with styling lotion to protect hair from heat damage and lift the roots.

Peter Buckingham for AOL

Mix and Match Products
Mix a little bit of grooming cream with a frizz serum to infuse hair with moisture and act as a barrier against humidity. Using your hands, apply this haircare cocktail from the ends up to the roots.

Peter Buckingham for AOL

Separate Into 3 Sections
"Before blow-drying, I like to separate and clip the hair into three sections--one at the top, one in the middle, and at the nape," says Danielle.

Peter Buckingham for AOL

Begin Your Blow-Dry
One of the biggest obstacles to a sleek blow out? Using the wrong brush. Put down those vent brushes and round brushes - a flat paddle brush with natural bristles will give the sleekest results. Natural bristles grab and hold on to hair best, while the shape will leave hair flat and straight (as opposed to the voluminous straight look a round brush will deliver).

Start at the nape, concentrating from the roots to midway down before working on the ends. Remember to point the nozzle of the dryer in the direction of the hair for smoother results.

Peter Buckingham for AOL

Be Thorough
Dry hair at the roots first on all four quadrants of your head--top, left, right, and bottom. Once they're dry, you can use a brush to smooth everything out.

Peter Buckingham for AOL

Drying the Front
"For the top section, I like to lift up the hair as I dry it, to get some height and also direct it away from the face," explains Danielle.

All Done!
Curls? What curls? With these expert instructions from Danielle Caputo, achieving salon-sleek results at home is easy.

Taylor is a pretty girl, but IMHO, straight hair doesn't work on her, she has an oblong face and the long hair just accentuates that.

I like Tayulor Swift, but I think she looks much better in curly hair. In this picture she looks like any 20 to 30 girls you can find as they file out of class when the bell rings.

Taylor always looks beautiful, but the new look is fabulous! It makes her look more mature and grown up. Not sure if thats what she's going for, but if it is, it's a job well done. Congrats Taylor!
