Lynn's Question: The circles below them are falling into my cheeks and they are making me look tired beyond my years. Can I fix this with creams? Alternatively, is there some simple procedure I can get that doesn't require going into a hospital and going under the knife? I know you are a plastic surgeon but I really don't want to get surgery.

Dr. Freund's Answer: Thank you for your pictures. You are like many women who are starting to look in the mirror and see signs of aging but who are simply not interested in surgery. A proper regimen of skincare and healthy living can quickly give you the fresh up you want.
Changing your hair is one fast way to bring new life to your look. Please don't get me wrong: I am not criticizing your current cut, but sometimes a simple change can really make you feel revitalized.

As for skincare, start a daily regimen of a topical anti-oxidant like Prevage, Vit C, or Revale (about $50 at your dermatologist's office). Another great product is Retin-A or Renova. Used properly, the products will slow the aging process, reduce acne and make your skin look smooth and healthier. The cost is about $100 for a three month supply. Another great thing to do for your skin once a week: exfoliate, with either a facial scrub (St. Ives, $8) or a Buf-Puf ($3). The more costly alternative is microdermabrasion (about $150/treatment).
As for the dark and hollow look beneath your eyes....your have a deep tear trough (indicated by "TT" in the "Before" photo) and some moderate darkening of the skin that could be genetic or the result of sun damage. Hydroquinone, a skin bleach available from your doctor (about $30), will erase some of the darkness, while the tear troughs can be filled in with Autologous Fat transfer ($2,500). This is a procedure in which fat from your own belly, hip or thigh is injected into the hollows below your eyes. Done well this can be a permanent fix.
I have also reshaped the nasolabial folds, upper lip and the marionette lines around your mouth in the "After" image with a filler like Juvederm, Hydrelle or Restylane ($750). These fillers are wonderful for small volume corrections and will last 6-12 months. You have many options, some expensive, some less so, but starting small with skincare and a great new 'do is an easy first step.
