Brits Selling Used Braces for Gold - Gag!

The British are known for, ahem, a somewhat liberal attitude towards dentistry.
But this time, they've gone too bloody far.
British metal mouths are selling their used braces to gold dealers, taking advantage of rising gold prices, the Telegraph reports.
We'll give you a minute to stop gagging.
Though gold braces are traditionally scrapped by the dentist upon their removal, patients are now asking to keep them in order to earn as much as £100 pounds (about $160), according to the paper.
And if that's not creepy enough for you, consider this: One London orthodontist told the source that some people ask for the braces to be melted down or made into jewelry.
The recent jump in gold's value is one way to explain this behavior (well, that and just plain ol' insanity). The precious metal reportedly hit a high of $1,226 per ounce earlier this month.
"If they are made of gold, the dentist would be mad to chuck them away," Dr. Lionel Wainstein told the Telegraph.
Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
Then again, maybe these enterprising patients and dentists aren't completely bonkers. Maybe it's these dealers forking out good money for these saliva-coated train tracks that need to get some help.
In the meantime, if we want bling with bite, we'll stick to these "Twilight"-inspired baubles, thank you very much.

Say what you will about a mouth's hygeine but I'm sure they clean these things.
It would be a shame to write off another way of making our world a little more sustainable.
