Dutch-born makeup artist Ellis Faas may not be an instantly recognizable name, but if you've picked up a fashion magazine in the past decade you've seen her work.
Named "one of the most influential make-up artists of her time" by French Vogue, Faas has worked with top photographers (such as Mario Testino) and fashion designers (ever heard of Karl Lagerfeld?), international makeup brands (Lancôme, to name one), and magazines such as Vogue.
In other words, when it comes to makeup, she knows what she's doing.
And now her meticulously crafted makeup line -- currently available online and in Europe, Australia and New Zealand -- is coming to the US! Ellis Faas Cosmetics will launch at Bergdorf Goodman on January 9, 2010.
The collection includes a full range of products for skin, lips and eyes, all based on Faas's "Human Colors" -- which means every shade she creates is based on a color found naturally in our bodies.
"My concept of Human Colors really does what we claim," Faas told StyleList. "It looks good on every skin tone."
For instance, one of her signature products is Ellis Red, a vivid red lipstick she says is unlike other red lipsticks that are usually too blue or too orange to compliment peoples' skin tones.
"My red is a deep, warm blood-red. I wouldn't take no for an answer," Faas explained. "In the lab we mixed and mixed, adding more a more pigment to get the depth of colour that I wanted."
Faas is also the creator of the genius Holder, which makes organizing makeup a snap.
"Most brands think that palettes with four colour eye shadows are very practical, but I disagree. You use one and throw away the others. And [with other brands] all products have different shapes and you spend ages going through your bag until you have found what you want to apply. So the starting point for my brand was the Holder, which you can load with eight products that you want to carry with you during that specific day," said Faas.
Sounds awesome! We can't wait to get our hands on Faas's products this January!
