She scored hit after hit, curtsied to the Queen and had her most bizarre style moment performing a mock suicide on stage at the Video Music Awards. On that night we learned fake blood red just isn't her color.
So StyleList was surprised to hear she's starting the New Year as a guest fashion muse on Bravo's "Launch My Line."
The reality truth: The quirky fashion design competition, which made its debut late this fall, has had no one at the network that launched Project Runway bragging about ratings.
Still, when Lady Gaga bothers to show up, StyleList, pays attention. Gaga will strut into the "Launch My Line " designers' workroom on its Jan. 6 episode to pose a fashion challenge, commanding the competitors to use her avant-garde style as inspiration for an outfit.
Since avant-garde and Lady Gaga are synonymous you may be asking what's the challenge here? Slap on some fake blood, trick out an outrageous mask and you are ready for the reality runway, right?
Here's the twist: Bravo tells us, the designers must "make sure they are pushing the boundaries of fashion without crossing the line of good taste." Remember, this is a show where the focus is on creating a line that will sell with consumers as well as runway critics.
Our tip to the competitors: Leave anything that reads "costume" out of your sketch pad and you might do okay.
But who are we to judge? That will be left up to "Launch My Lines" resident judges which include Scoop NYC founder and HSN star brander Stefanie Greenfield, Los Angeles boutique owner Lisa Kline and host/judges Dean and Dan Caten of DSquared2 fame.
The designing twins presence in the "Launch My Line," credits may explain why Lady Gaga put this gig on her busy schedule. A Bravo spokeswoman told us today that DSquared2 has dressed the superstar on prior occasions.
Bravo has also hinted that a "major superstar" will appear in yet another upcoming episode. Since the Caten's have also dressed the Madonna, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears we have plus size fashion expectations.
If Lady Gaga on the scene is not enough, Bravo tells us that the Jan. 6 challenge will create its own drama. One of the competing designer's and their expert consultant "will be pushed to the breaking point" during this challenge.
Since the cast is full of characters, we can only hope its as much fun as a Real Housewives fashion smack down.
You can catch a sneak peak of the upcoming episode, which airs on Jan. 6 at 10 p.m. ET/PT at Bravo's official web site.
