BeautifulPeople.com Drops 5,000 Members for Holiday Weight Gain

Online dating now requires a weigh-in... Great! Photo: Getty Images

So much for beauty only being skin-deep.

BeautifulPeople.com has dropped 5,000 members for allegedly packing on the holiday pounds, reports BBC News.

The dating and social networking site allows new members to join only if existing members vote them in -- based solely on their looks -- and claims to be "the largest network of attractive people in the world." (Um, they conveniently forgot to advertise the shallow part.)

Apparently, for this matchmaker, larger and attractive are mutually exclusive -- the offending members were dropped after they posted photos of themselves revealing a little holiday weight gain.

Other members reported the alleged extra pounds and voted to deliver subsequent send offs.

Site founder Robert Hintze told BBC, "As a business, we mourn the loss of any member, but the fact remains that our members demand the high standard of beauty be upheld."

"Letting fatties roam the site is a direct threat to our business model and the very concept for which BeautifulPeople.com was founded."

Maybe Karl Lagerfeld should consider a membership.

What next? Magazine cover-inspired photo retouching for profile pics? We wouldn't be surprised. The decisions were based on photos alone, after all.

What do you think of the Web site's M.O.? Leave a comment!

Luckily, this dating site seems to be living under a rock. Even the ultra-skinny model trend is on its way out.
