Born "Diane Hall" in 1946, Diane Keaton turns 64 on January 5, 2010. Her first major film role in "The Godfather"helped launch a long and successful career for the star.
But unlike many actresses who strive for fashion and beauty perfection, Keaton preferred to make a statement with her style. Take a look at the star's best and worst fashion moments throughout the years.

In "The Godfather" parts one and two, Keaton's image was sharp and perfectly '70s: A sleek, gently waved bob, high-waisted pants, and a black turtleneck.

Keaton enjoys a meal in an outfit she could have borrowed from her dad: A houndstooth jacket, gray scarf, and a polka dot tie. It's hard to imagine any of today's Hollywood leading ladies dressing so masculine.

Diane Keaton checks out the play "Crimes of the Heart" in a brown fedora, striped sweater, and baggy leather pants. We have a sneaking suspicion that this look may have passed as stylish in the '80s. But these days, when it comes to baggy pants, we know better.

For Madonna's AIDS Benefit Concert, Keaton wore a long checked coat, orange fingerless gloves, a floral pin (very Carrie Bradshaw!) and gray hat. Without the busy jacket, pin, and gloves, this would outfit would have looked more modern -- we like the hat, and the belted turtleneck tunic is a simple, stylish look.

At the film premiere of "Marvin's Room," Keaton wore a belted white collared shirt and full yellow and black plaid skirt. For someone who appears to be a non-conformist about fashion, Keaton certainly seems to enjoy using her look to get attention.

At the premiere of "The Score" in Los Angeles, Keaton inexplicably wore white ankle socks with her kitten heel shoes.

At a gala sponsored by Angeleno Magazine & Jaguar, Keaton seems to be slightly inspired by the poshness of the evening and pulls off a relatively stylish outfit. Her striped, belted turtleneck, pencil skirt, and simple black heels all match and look coordinated. We're not sure the black leather gloves are necessary in May (in Los Angeles, no less) but that's Keaton.
