The designer, who also serves as Puma's Creative Director, bought back the majority stake in Chalayan LLP which he sold to Puma AG in February 2008.
Chalayan will from now on manage the Hussein Chalayan brand independently from Puma, the company said in an emailed statement. Financial details were not disclosed.
Chalayan will continue to oversee design, creation and development of Puma's Sportlifestyle collections.
Puma's Urban Mobility Collection will be the next line developed by Hussein Chalayan and will be available in stores this spring.
The active sportswear maker also has relationships with Alexander McQueen and Sergio Rossi.
What prompted the move? While we know Chalayan isn't quiet about his disdian for flighty designers, perhaps the kicker was being honored as one of the British Fashion Council's Power 25.
