'Daring' To Replace 'Pretty' Hair On Awards Season Red Carpets

Will Lady Gaga drive other celebrities to wear edgier hair styles? Photo: FilmMagic.com

The Spring 2010 runways were filled with extreme hair styles, and now hair stylists are predicting that daring 'do's will make the jump to the red carpet this awards season, with celebrities trading safer strands for tresses that push the envelope.

"For a long time we've seen pretty hair but now it's a bit more adventurous," backstage hair maestro Guido Palau told StyleList of the edgy runway looks.

Celebrity hairstylist and Avon Global Stylist Adviser Tippi Shorter -- who tends the tresses of Alicia Keys, Rihanna and Vanessa Williams -- thinks that celebrities will use their hair to make a statement, trading safe for saucy. "Particularly for music artists it is key to be daring with hairstyles," Shorter told us. "I expect to see not necessarily beautiful, but daring styles."

Is this shift in the beauty spectrum inspired by Lady Gaga and her extreme aesthetic? We think so. A muse to influential designer Marc Jacobs, Gaga's envelope-pushing styles are often punctuated by crazy hair. Thanks to her ubiquity on the red carpet, head-turning hair 'dos like hair bows (crafted from actual hair) and Statue of Liberty-inspired spikes have become well, almost normal. Nice hair hat, now pass the Cheerios.

So StyleList is taking a leap of faith, predicting which hairstyles our favorite celebs will wear to the Golden Globe, Screen Actor Guild and Grammy Awards. Here's our strand style forecast:

Gwen Stefani Jean Paul Gaultier Spring 2010

Photos: Jon Furniss, WireImage | Imaxtree

Gwen Stefani's style has definitely become more refined since her early No Doubt days. The rocker mom constantly dazzles us with her ladylike chignons and polished makeup -- made complete with her classic red lip. But will she make a return to her chola phase with dark eyes and lips and a super gel 'do like the look this model is sporting from Jean Paul Gaultier's Spring 2010 runway show?

Alicia Keys Danielle Scutt Spring 2010

Photos: Jason Kempin, Getty Images | Imaxtree

Alicia Keys has been sporting sleeker strands lately. And while we love the "Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart" singer's super straight look, we believe she has the bravado to pull off a colossal pompadour like the one we spotted on the runway at Danielle Scutt Spring 2010 show.

Carrie Underwood Sonia Rykiel Spring 2010

Photos: Jeffrey Mayer, WireImage | Imaxtree

Carrie Underwood is known for hitting the carpet with perfectly, tussled locks. But we can totally see the country star revving it up with a teased, blonde updo accentuated with a chic topper ( à la Sonia Rykiel Spring 2010) -- sure to grab the crowd's attention when belting out her tunes.

Leave a comment on the look you hope to see the stars wear on the red carpet, and stay tuned to StyleList for more of-the-moment red carpet coverage!

These "Hair show" style hair do's can be so damaging on the hair! Some of the pics show burnt, dead and lifeless hair FROZEN in place with a ton of laqure type hairsprays. The only two places these types of styles work are on the runways with wacky unwareable clothes and in hair shows! Sure they are creative but most women would never wear these styles for classy parties and award shows.
The "Jeston's" hair styles are not fun to have done to your head and are uncomfortable to wear as well as remove the next day. Be ready for a ton of conditioning treatments and a hair cut afterwards! YUK

This is STUPID. Why on earth would you want to look like an idiot and a freak on the red carpet while you are all decked out in a beautiful gown? Its not called "daring" its called a pathetic attempt to try and stand out.

Nothing like a hideous hair-don't to distract us from the fact that a lot of singers and actors really have very little talent. Alicia Keys is quite an exception. Why would she want to distract us from her fantastic voice and piano playing with a hair style that leaves us staring at it and constantly thinking "WTF??" instead of actually enjoying her music?

I have been wearing lace wigs, lace front wigs and full lace wigs for the longest time, but I actually didn't like the reality that continual tight weaves can make your http://www.owigs.com/stock-full-lace-wigs-c-1.html full lace wigs and http://www.wal-land.com/hairstyles/ hairstyles thin. It's difficult for your scalp to recover from traction Alopecia.
