The Return of the Perm?

Curly-haired girls, put down those flat irons and blow dryers. Your straight sisters' lustrous long reign may be coming to an end.

When chanteuse Marion Cotillard showed up this weekend at a Dior party held in her honor for the film "Nine," mouths flapped at the sight of the actress's tight, frizzy curls; paired with her bob cut, it just looked so playfully chic – as did the Christian Dior metallic silver party dress Cotillard flaunted.

The pin curl look previously favored by fashionistas circa 1980-something is hitting the Spring and Summer '10 catwalk in a big way too.

Old Hollywood 40's-inspired waves were seen at Dior, while a combed-out frizzy perm highlighted the Sonia Rykiel and Marc by Marc Jacobs collections. Volume-loving afro wigs took center stage at Louis Vuitton – all as reported by Grazia.

But before you rush to the hairdresser seeking a perm, you can try the look first without fully committing by playing with rollers. Look for a small size to twist and bobby pin hairspray-prepped hair into, as these rollers create much more texture and curl than their larger counterparts.

Another option for longer-haired girls: sleep in freshly-washed braided hair and awake to fabulousness.

And if you naturally have poufy, humidity-loving curls or waves, just step out the door. It's finally your time to shine.

Perm was the word on Sonia Rykiel and Louis Vuitton's Spring runways. Photos: Getty

LOL @ The pic of the girl in an afro! I know I am in the minority here with what hairstyles I like, but....I really loved the "big hair" of the 80's (NOT the look of the afro girl, though!) But I really love the Farra look and long locks of curls. I hate the straight flat look of the 70's that is so popular. I guess my hair is just "stuck" in the 80's like my daughter keeps telling me! lol

HELLO!!! The "pin curl" is the friend of the 1940's/'50's....My Mom would "pin curl" my hair on Sat. nights, to be sure it was "adorable" for church on Sunday. Actually, it was a nightmare....

My hair is curly~being Italian it is a given,so rollers were and are my best friend. The 60s and 70s were accompanied by hot rollers everywhere I traveled to make this crop smooth.Straightening is hard on the hair, rollers are hard on the scalp, can't win.But pin curls were in the 40s and early 50s.Time consuming and not worth the time or effort.Shaving was a long shot but it would have been easier! What a life!Ironing is do-able.Now I'm in my 70s and still fighting the fight.: )

I think this hairstyle would be outstanding on a beautiful soft face. A face that doesn't scream FACE-just beauty. It is hard to find a woman who is not attractive today. It is almost impossible to find a famous face that screams ancestry in my genes. Why do we all want to look like someone else. When I saw this short hair aveda shampure is the perfect solution is what I thought.

So the model on the left in yellow... just wondering... how many volts did it take to achieve that level of frizz? Just need to know when to quit when I have my wet fingers in the wall outlet.

If the three pictures shown with the article are examples of the new curly hair trend, we're in for some really laughable and/or scary hair. The first picture makes the hair look dirty and unkempt. The secong picture looks like it was styled by a static generator and hedge clippers. The third picture looks like a live version of a disco cartoon.

Perms will always be cool, simply because everyone who has one can feel a little bit more like a Hobbit.

Model in yellow has had her hair teased, lacquered/hair sprayed , teased again, fingers or combs (most likely fingers) to twist and lacquered again to get the look you see. Presenting this so call up and coming hairstyle took one minute or less to walk the catwalk or skit that was created to show, then it's over. Has anyone ever thought about what it takes for this model to get her hair back to original shape?

I gotta say: I was never crazy about those perms in the 80's .... but that "wash and wear" hair sure made life easy. After the shower just tossle your hair and out the door you went, letting it air-dry. Now, it takes longer to do my hair than it took my mother back in the 60s when she would wear those "bubble" styles with the farty bow clipped just above her bangs. Flat irons ... curling irons ... blah. Bring on the frizzy perms!
