The brand's iconic fragrance will be relaunched in spring 2010 as part of a new licensing agreement between Tracy's parent company, Brand Matter LLC and Palm Beach Beauté. In addition, a new Ellen Tracy fragrance will be introduced in Spring 2011.
"Ellen Tracy defines the modern American woman and we are excited to work with the dynamic Ellen Tracy creative team in capturing the brand's rich heritage and signature style in a luxurious new fragrance collection," said Harold Ickovics, President and CEO of Palm Beach Beauté, in a release.
"There are fashionable woman today who demand and insist on a certain level of style and sophistication in their clothing and perfume. We plan to gain and reward their attention with Ellen Tracy fragrance."
Ellen Tracy was founded as a ladies blouse company in 1949 and soon grew into a resource for women looking for better sportswear and work clothes. There was no woman named Ellen Tracy, but in the mid-1960s Linda Allard became the creative force behind the brand and is "Ellen Tracy" to most women.
Though the brand was not cutting-edge fashion, it was perceived as such particularly with the models it used in its campaigns. Carol Alt, Nikki Taylor, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, Stephanie Seymour, Mini Anden, Jacquetta Wheeler and Angela Lindvall all appeared in the company's campaigns at the pinnacles of their careers.
Brand Matter recently signed a strategic partnership with Macy's to sell Ellen Tracy Bronze Label Better Sportswear exclusively. The signature Ellen Tracy brand will continue to be sold in better department stores.
