"Designing bridal dresses is something that I hold very special because I think that it's such a special day in the life of a woman," the designer told StyleList.
"The bride has a common dream -- she wants to look her very best, the most feminine, the most romantic and the most memorable."
Oscar de la Renta unveiled a capsule collection of four new bridal gowns to be sold at Bergdorf Goodman. (These gorgeous new styles are in addition to the designer's highly coveted regular bridal collection, which is not a Bergdorf exclusive.)
The four styles -- a sleek strapless gown of lace over a colored lining, a simple gown with ornate jeweling at the neck, a full tulle skirted gown with a colored sash (left) and a more traditional gown -- took center stage at the retailer's small reception which drew loads of Oscar fans, brides or not.
These new offerings are in addition to the designer's highly coveted regular bridal collection, which is not exclusive to Bergdorfs.
Bridal shoppers are a little harder to please than regular shoppers, de la Renta explained. "Most of the time when a bride comes for a dress, she has a specific idea of what she wants. Every woman dreams of that day," he told us. "You have to go the extra mile and fulfill that dream and make something that a woman will fall in love with."
However, the biggest challenge Oscar faces when working with brides is their mothers. "The mothers and the daughters think very differently about that day. When the mother comes with the daughter, and they have differing opinions, I tell the mother 'this is her day, not yours. I think I would like to listen to what she wants.'"
