Jennifer Lopez hit the town last night. And she wasn't wearing a cat suit this time.

The 40 year-old mama of twins worked the red carpet at NYC's chic Hotel Gansevoort Provocateur night club last night in a curve-hugging black bustier mini dress and her trademark luminous makeup.

The special occasion? The launch of the glossy coffee table beauty book of Lopez's longtime personal makeup artist and friend, Scott Barnes.

"From watching Scott do my face so many years, I'm now a pro at doing my low-run version of what he does!" says Lopez.

But contouring and highlighting tricks aren't what Jenny from the block counts on the most to get her through award season. For this diva, it's all about taking care of her much-photographed skin.

"I love that Rose Cream by Dr. Hauschka. I buy it at Whole Foods," Lopez tells Stylelist.

Barnes' first book – About Face, Amazing Transformations Using the Secrets of the Top Celebrity Makeup Artist – features compelling makeovers with a detailed breakdown of how to create the look yourself.

While most of the before-to-after action involves more powder and layers of contouring than we're comfortable with doing ourselves, it's fascinating to see what once were celeb beauty secrets spelled out at every turn and brush stroke.

"When I say 'transformative beauty,' I also mean that you bring your beauty outside of you and use it to make the world a happier place. We could all be more kind to one another," Barnes tells Stylelist.

And in more news guaranteed to make his southern Cali clientele happy, Barnes has reintroduced his best-selling Body Bling tinted body moisturizer – which leaves skin silky smooth with a kissed-by-the-sun bronze glow.

"I realized the old packaging sucked. Women kept telling me to do it in a squeeze tube, so I finally just did it. And the price went down a few bucks because it cost me less to do it that way too," laughs Barnes.

A man who listens to what women want? No wonder JLo won't let him go.
