Around 370 guests were expected for the cotton company's fashion show, but over 600 enthusiastic supporters showed up at the New York Times Center Tuesday evening, forcing the organizers of the event to set up a screen where the show could be watched in an overflow area.
Hosted by TV talking head Katrina Szish, the fashion show featured designs from competition finalists Gina DeSilva, Heber Sanchez, Robin Tomas, Nadia Ivanova, Sachika (a team composed of sisters To-Tam and To-Nya Ton-Nu) and Michael Venker.
DeSilva, who learned about sewing and construction in her family's bridal salon, was presented with Best in Show honors by model Coco Rocha for her softly tiered gown.
However, from the amount of applause and cheers heard, the fan favorite was a strapless gown with a corseted bodice and full skirt by Sanchez, which he was sewing backstage up until his model hit the catwalk.
Tomas, an alumnus of Gap, Tommy Hilfiger and J. Crew, won the award for Best T-shirt. As part of his prize, his layered-looking tee will be produced and sold at Bloomingdale's.
