Haute Couture Spring 2010 - The Daily Roundup

As the Spring 2010 Haute Couture shows continue, more front-row celebrities show their lovely made-up faces and the clothes have taken an even more extravagant turn. Here are some of the highlights from the past 24 hours:

Craftsmanship of the day: Chanel is known for its extraordinary attention to detail when it comes to haute couture. With that in mind, consider this: one pale pink chiffon rosette dress took a painstaking 700 hours to make, while a matching blue shift and jacket were composed of 13,000 hand-cut satin flowers.

Celeb-spotting: On hand to watch Chanel's ethereal showing was an expecting Claudia Schiffer, French chanteuse Charlotte Gainsbourg, Bond girl Olga Kurylenko, TV personality-cum-designer Alexa Chung and omnipresent couple du jour Kanye West and Amber Rose. Late in the evening, Ciara reportedly showed up unfashionably late to the Givenchy show, causing photographers to boo. She eventually took her seat next to Lou Doillon and, of course, blogging wunderkind Tavi.

Couture, Italian-style?: According to Women's Wear Daily, Gucci's Frida Giannini is currently working on a debut couture collection. But you won't see it on the Paris runways next season - it will be available on a by-appointment basis for celebrities' red-carpet needs. We're looking forward to seeing Gucci with about 10,000 times more bling.

Model moment: Newly-engaged model Lara Stone hit the Chanel runway today in a gorgeous white frilly chiffon number. Inevitably, it led us to speculate about her gown choices for the upcoming nuptials...we just hope David Walliams isn't considering the gold metallic tuxedo that Lagerfeld's "groom" wore at the end of the show.

Beauty obsession: Yesterday's dramatic two-tone hair at Alexis Mabille has gave way to white highlights, painted onto blondes and brunettes at Chanel, before it was bunched into two enormous Minnie Mouse-style buns and accessorized with a chiffon bow. At Givenchy the focus wasn't so much on hair (that was slicked and parted down the middle) as it was severely heavy eye makeup with...wait for it...bleached brows....again! You may recall that this was a beauty trend last season as well!

Lagerfeld showed in his new collection to Chanel how he manages to balance so well between romantic style and big productions. Pure Magic.

Daily Dose of Style is back in full swing and ready to tackle on new fashion dilemmas, season standouts and much more! Today, let's take on a personal issue of mine. The problem: I'm in a wardrobe rut and have been for the past several weeks. You ever have those periods of time where you hate everything in your closet, or absolutely bored of it? Ugh! And since I'm still recovering from my holiday spending (ahem, over-spending), I can't just splurge on new clothes to solve my apparel angst. The solution: Layering! Playing with layers can produce outfits for you that feel totally new. I have to admit I haven't mastered this form of art yet. I need to schedule some playtime in my closet in fact. Look below. This is what I'm taking about. Topping your old dress with a cardigan, vest and scarf updates a once-drab dress... and makes the outfit all the more interesting! How do you layer? Tell me below! Stay tuned by the way for voguetouch Shopping's Guide to Layering coming in February!
