Michelle Obama's State of the Union Dress

Michelle Obama looked ravishing at the State of the Union address tonight.

The First Lady showed up in a raisin-colored 3/4 sleeve sweater dress with a high-waisted bubble skirt by Isaac Mizrahi. The dress retails for $1850 and was a part of Mizrahi's Pre-Fall 2009 collection.

She accessorized with a strand of pearls and an extra-sleek blowout -- and a radiant smile.

We secretly kind of love the fact that you can tell when Michelle blows out her own hair, and when it's been professionally done. It's nice to see her polished at times, and then more natural at others. After all, we can't relate to anyone who's perfectly coiffed 24/7!

All in all, this was a great look for Mrs. O, though perhaps not nearly as exciting and controversial as when she first introduced congress to her bare arms in a sleeveless dress. The form-fitting top keeps things contemporary, while the full skirt keeps her covered up. It's appropriate for the occasion, and still much more contemporary than a fussy blazer or twinset.

What do you think of her outfit? What would you wear to such a high-profile event? Leave a comment and let us know.

I really like the dress she had on tonight! Eggplant is definitely her color! I think it is the best dress I have seen her in, next to that black evening gown that she was photographed in (the one with bare arms and shoulders, that came up around her neck).

I really wasn't blown away with her outfit. I thought the color flattered her very well; but, the lines of the skirt did not flatter her at all.

There are sites that are displaying links to : "Our picks to mimic her look tonight, so no matter which side of the political fence you tend to lean, we can all agree this first lady has serious style worth copying." Why would anyone want to "copy her style " or "mimic her look". I guess the mindless, "sheeple" of the world .

Connie, what a revolting comment. I assume you are not a Harvard and Princeton graduate, as is Ms. Obama, in that you would refer to anyone, let alone the First Lady as a pig. I am also sure you would not have written such a thing if your identity and photo were available to us. Ah, racism, it is alive and well.

e bass, women have been following style of women in power, or married to power, for centuries. Sheeple (that is such an over-used word), perhaps, but it did not start with the First Lady.

To the point, the color is magnificent. I agree, the cut of the skirt is not the best, but I did not see a full shot of Mrs, Obama. For such a beautiful woman, she does make some fashion mistakes. Perhaps she is trying to draw the eye away from her height when she wears skirts and tops?

Michelle should stop dressing as if she's been raiding her daughters' wardrobe. When will she wear grown up clothes that aren't two sizes too small. She looks more like a First Girl than First Lady. Congrats for not cutting the sleeves off!

The outfit was cute but the bubble skirt on a pear shaped frame like hers is not flattering. It made her butt look huge.

I thought the dress was gorgeous on her. As we speak, I'm looking for that style of dress and a lacefront wig to wear. At least shes not wearing pantsuits on a regular basis like Hilary, looking like a lesbian.

Bubble skirt with pleats?? with that butt?? she should look in the mirror front and back before she goes anywhere, how could you miss her butt when she turned around it was like a big raisin, eggplant , purple( whatever color you want to call it)pumpkin on the TV screen. I also agree her clothes are too small and only accentuate her overweight shape. Obesity control should begin at home before you "preach " to the masses.

Is Michelle pregnant? Her belts and empire waists are getting higher and higher.
If she's not pregnant, she's definitely in the "overweight" category using the taxpayer- paid CDC BMI calculator.
What's the best dress design to camouflage her pear-shape?
Or should she just stop her anti-obesity policy.....and then embrace her own body with a tighter fit around the belly, butt, and thighs?

Get a grip all of you ladies and or men criticizing the First Lady's attire. Mrs. Obama always looks fabulous in everything she wears from gardening to the stately affairs. She is not a Barbie Doll and doesn't dress like one. She dresses like the tall, curvy woman that she is and as far as I'm concerned she sets the standard for all beautiful women that don't look like Barbie Dolls!!!!

Radiant....fitting for a Real American woman. Glad she doesn't wear those out dated "stuffy" suits that cost a bundle.

The dress does nothing for her. She's trying to bring back that Jackie O style, but the cut, fit and color do not flatter her body in the least. The pearls look out of place.

She's not curvy. She's boxy. If the media has to tell you all the time that someone is attractive, it probably means they aren't. Race has nothing to do with it. There are plenty of attractive black women out there. Michelle Obama just isn't one of them and she doesn't dress well for her shape. She needs to wear clothing that creates contours rather than try to copy the stiff, boxy shapes that Jackie O made popular.
