Grammys 2010 Red Carpet Lessons
Not every red carpet gown is a stylist-approved home run. And it's not just the newcomers who miss the mark (ahem, Snooki?). We picked seven stunning stars from this year's Grammy Awards to illustrate some important fashion lessons we all need to remember.
Fine Feathered Friends
Rihanna certainly made an entrance in this Elie Saab gown. But the feathered neck and pointy hips are just a little too much for us.
Fashion Rule: Avoid fluff, feathers, and anything that could pass as an animal's coat.

Get Lost
Pink is a beautiful woman with a beautiful body. But in this jeweled, strapless, faded-hue gown, you barely notice her. It's important to choose a dress that shows you off -- not swallows you up.
Fashion Rule: Wear the dress, don't let it wear you.

Color Me Bad
Nicole Kidman wore a very ladylike high-necked Prada gown to support music man hubby Keith Urban. But with her pale-as-snow-skin, this black satin dress makes her look like a vampire.
Fashion Rule: Perk up pale skin with bright colors.

A Nude Attitude
We're big fans of Britney Spears... and Dolce and Gabbana. But let's be honest -- Wearing a sheer, see-through slip over a designer leotard-like core layer doesn't really count as a dress. We're just saying!
Fashion Rule: Showing a little leg is sexy. Showing an entire leg is not.

Peek-a-Boob
Toni Braxton has taken our breath away on many a red carpet, but sheer white can be a tricky tone to pull off. This one-shoulder draped David Meister gown proves it, as every curve on Braxton's body is highlighted for all to see.
Fashion Rule: Be sure your dress is lined, or the lights may reveal more than you want the cameras to capture.

Cut It Out
Kristen Bell is one of the prettiest young stars in Hollywood, but the style of this dress was just a little... off. We'd love to see her in something a little more fitted, and the untraditional cut just ends up being distracting.
Fashion Rule: Stick to cuts that work for you, and always aim to show off your best assets.

Nothing in Excess
Sometimes a perfectly gorgeous dress becomes the victim of one overzealous addition. In this case, it's J. Lo's versace gown. She would have been better off if she stuck to a silver mini with her Louboutins -- but the sparkly white overlay instantly changed the look from sexy to busy.
Fashion Rule: Keep it simple.

That's all for now.
Until next year...
