Nude Nipple Cover Sales up 20 Percent Thanks to Underwear-as-Outerwear Trend

Guess Lindsay Lohan is more of a trendsetter than we hoped gave her credit for.
Oh joy.
The starlet was universally condemned for putting nipple pasties on the models at her Emanuel Ungaro Spring 2010 show, but now it seems like ol' LiLo had her finger on the, er, pulse.
Nude nipple covers have seen a 20 percent sales increase at British department store Selfridges, which credits the booming underwear-as-outerwear trend for the "perk" in the pastie's popularity, the Daily Mail reports.
In fact, the store has been forced to increase orders of the nipple covers (available for £10, or $16, a pop) in order to keep up with the demand, according to the paper.
"Underwear as outerwear isn't a new phenomenon, however this spring designers such as Stella McCartney and Christian Dior are taking it to another level," Helen Attwood, head buyer for lingerie at Selfridges, told the paper.
"Our customers are spending upwards of £250 on sheer bodies [Ed note: bodysuits] which they don't want to keep hidden under clothes.
"Today's 'if you've got it, flaunt it' generation is proving that there is nothing like a peek of expensive lingerie to make a woman feel special."
The trend of wearing sheer bustiers and bodysuits has reportedly required women to stock up on pasties to avoid any embarrassing "iceberg, straight ahead!" moments. Right, Pink?
Remember the good old days when you could slap on a couple of Band-Aids and call it a day?
We previously reported that Selfridges had seen a 70 percent rise in corset sales thanks to lingerie-loving stars like Rihanna and Lady Gaga.
Just so long as chaps-as-outerwear don't become acceptable in public, we'll let this undie trend keep on truckin'.
But could someone please turn down the air conditioning?
Meanwhile, exposed garters are also hot with the Hollywood crowd.

Daily Dose of Style is back in full swing and ready to tackle on new fashion dilemmas, season standouts and much more! Today, let's take on a personal issue of mine. The problem: I'm in a wardrobe rut and have been for the past several weeks. You ever have those periods of time where you hate everything in your closet, or absolutely bored of it? Ugh! And since I'm still recovering from my holiday spending (ahem, over-spending), I can't just splurge on new clothes to solve my apparel angst. The solution: Layering! Playing with layers can produce outfits for you that feel totally new. I have to admit I haven't mastered this form of art yet. I need to schedule some playtime in my closet in fact. Look below. This is what I'm taking about. Topping your old dress with a cardigan, vest and scarf updates a once-drab dress... and makes the outfit all the more interesting! How do you layer? Tell me below! Stay tuned by the way for voguetouch Shopping's Guide to Layering coming in February!
