When makeup artist Dick Page debuted Shiseido's spring makeup collection this past September at the Michael Kors Spring 2010 show we instantly fell in love with the bright, juicy colors and gorgeous textures.

Pops of color against petal-fresh, matte skin looks modern, not teenybopper.

The collection includes new lipsticks and glosses in candy pink, violet, shimmery nude, coral and sheer burgundy, vibrant eyeshadows including lagoon-green, sky blue and peach, plus a lightweight mattifying powder foundation and rosy cheek colors.

With color like that you need some pro advice, so we asked Dick Page himself (as Artistic Director for Shiseido Makeup he helped perfect the collection) his favorite choices for spring.

StyleList:Perfect Rouge Glowing Matte lipsticks are so fresh and pretty -- but they're matte! Why should women who've been obsessed with lip gloss try out matte lips?

Page: I like the idea of a lightweight matte option for lips. I think it looks very chic and it's as easy to wear as gloss. The smooth finish is very comfortable too. Matte lipstick was synonymous with dryness and opacity for a while, so I'm hoping these colors will change that.

StyleList: If a woman wants to try out a bright lip color, what do you recommend?

Page: The bright shades I love are Sugarbabe [candy pink] and Coral Glow [vibrant coral] in the Glowing Matte formula. Their brightness is very flattering without being overwhelming.

StyleList: What eye makeup goes with the vibrant lip look?

Page: The lip will appear more sophisticated with a dark eye or strong liner. With a shimmering pastel shadow the lip will look soft and fresh. It's fun to mix and match different makeup items -- I'm all about having fun with color!

StyleList:Bright teal and sky blue eyeshadows are fun, but how can someone make it look chic?

Page: I think Luminizing Satin Eye Color in Fondant [teal green] and Sky [blue] look fantastic as a wash of color fanned out over the entire lid, fading away at the brow bone, and perhaps blended into the Luminizing Satin Face Color in High Beam White or Soft Beam Gold for warmer skin [two illuminating highlighters from the collection]. I sometimes "anchor" the color with a smudge of black pencil along the lash line, blended into the shadow with a sponge chip or fingertip; this gives a little extra weight to the color and is good for women who feel that the pastel shade alone is too junior. Another great way to use them is as color accents with other makeup. They make amazing highlights for dark, smoky eyes or as a flash of color on the inner corner of the eye.

StyleList:With all this color happening, what should we do with the rest of our face?

Page: I think all colored makeup benefits from a good foundation. It doesn't have to be full coverage, but what you want is the impression of healthy, smooth skin. For some women, a little cover-up and powder is enough, others may prefer a more finished look. As for blush, I'm a big fan, but if you're trying new eye and lip colors you may need to adjust your blush accordingly. It might seem that less is better but you could find yourself looking a little washed out if the color is too soft... time to experiment!
