'Jersey Shore' Cast Not Welcome at Fashion Week

Normally, designers and celebrities go together like champagne and bubbles. Famous faces in the front row of the collections mean more publicity which hopefully translates into more sales in the stores.

But America's current fascination with the self-described "Guido" cast of the MTV hit "Jersey Shore" is causing some consternation ahead of New York Fashion Week.

The trouble-magnet known as Snooki has, through an intermediary, let it be known that she is available to be a celebrity guest at the shows, which is wrinkling noses on faces normally too Botoxed to move.

"It's a nightmare," one veteran fashion publicist, who is responsible for seating several top Fashion Week shows, told me. "Nobody wants any of those kids anywhere near their brand."

The problem is that while the "Jersey Shore" cast would certainly attract flashbulbs, their lowbrow image is not seen as a snug fit with the showcase event of a multibillion-dollar luxury industry. Or, in the words of another Fashion Week vet: "They're [bleeping] peasants."

Of course, it would not be hard to re-cast the "Jersey Shore" team with talent already familiar to Fashion Week. International Herald Tribune critic Suzy Menkes is an obvious choice for Snooki, based on their similar hair styles. J-Woww and Betsey Johnson also look as if they share a hairdresser.

For his famous abs, The Situation could only be played by Marc Jacobs, who has shown a recent fondness for stripping down for the camera. And the musclebound Ronnie looks like he shares a gym routine with square-shouldered menswear maestro, John Bartlett.

Sammi Sweetheart and Donna Karan show a similar knack for staying centered as madness swirls around them, while the bashful good-guy Vinny reminds me of gentlemanly designer Michael Bastian. DJ Pauly D could only be fashion's favorite spin-meister, Ben Cho.

Then there's Angelina, the cast member who seemed promising but was fired early on and completely disappeared from the scene. Umm, Kate Betts?

However, you can expect to see reality stars the Kardashians at Fashion Week showing their collection for Bebe.

This makes the fashion world seem even more elitest. While I understand tha the cast of Jersey Shore aren't really the most well behaved or classiest people they don't deserve all the backlash they're getting. I've seen the show; it looks like any other reality tv show (like the real world and others). I really don't see what the big deal is.

It seems elitest because IT IS! and trash like the acting out teen agers in that group should not be allowed any where that has good china or books to be read or where they whould dress appropriately
Some people just dont belong every where there want to go just because they can act badly on a tv program

Like the sign says, "please dispose of your trash before entering". Better yet, stay away from where you're not wanted.

If it's by invitation only, some don't get invited...If you didn't invite the KKK to your kids birthday party, should they come anyway???

YES! thank you! i lived in new york for 22 years and not once did i see half the bull they try to pass off as "trendy" fashion. id rather shop at thrift stores for older fashions, or no name brands because id wear toilet paper before id wear half the crap they make. and toilet paper would probably look better anyway!

those jersey shore idiots are just like the rest, except the snobs of the fashion word snubbed them, which should be a reminder that just because you're tan and "famous" doesn't mean anything. they're famous for being irritating. im originally from new jersey, and it makes me ashamed to see it represented by people like them. they should grow up and stop acting like spoiled brats.

Poor people can be so bitter. I think some of you are just jealous that whether you want to wear those clothes or not, you couldn't afford them. Jersey Shore is full of trash, they seem to love being trash. Fine, but don't complain that the rest of us don't want to be brough down to their level.

What a slap in the face to the rest of us in NJ!.. Those kids were horrible. I would never want to be represented by them. They make New Jersey look so scuzdy!
How "shallow" a life. All about fake tans and absolutely no substance...

But they "don't" represent New Jersey! If you watched the show at all you would know that they are all from New York, except for Pauly who is from Rhode Island.

The Jersey Losers are NOT peasants! They are just TRASHY KIDS who obviously have no clue of how responsible young adults act. I hope they are banned from fashion week and any other venues they try to crash. Their parents must be so proud...but that depends on how stupid and worthless they are themselves. I'm guessing their parents aren't the brighest bulbs in the lamp either. TRASH. PURE TRASH.

Why is a low end program like this allowed to be broadcast? All this "reality TV" is just contributing to the "dumbing down" of America!
