Organic by John Patrick Fall 2010 - Runway Review

INSPIRATION: Young Princess Diana meets Pierre Cardin meets Joni Mitchell
TOP LOOKS: A pearl tweed shorts suit; shawl collar green and pink check jacket with pleated boys' pants and a smoky chiffon tank; shocking pink long vest and ruby high waist trousers; a Japanese sylph as Bob Dylan in a shrunken camel peacoat, beatnik turtleneck, and cropped leather flares; Art Nouveau print pajama set for evening
ACCESSORIES: Industrial copper rings, cuffs and arm bands from M+R Jewelry by L.A. based architect Marmol Radziner. Cropped leather gloves by Carolina Amato. And Jeff Koons-esque liquid metal high-heel oxfords and silk tassel-front sandals.
WHO WAS THERE: Organic by John Patrick intern and San Francisco 49ers' tight end, Vernon Davis; Teen Vogue Fashion Director Gloria Baume; Barneys New York's Julie Gilhart; Marie Claire's Amanda Hearst; Vogue's Sally Singer -- and me, I styled the show!
WHAT WE THOUGHT: The sustainable haberdasher, John Patrick, went to the Scottish Highlands for inspiration and upped his game for Fall. Harris Tweed, the traditional fabric house, served as muse for the designer, as much as Princess Di at Balmoral. Patrick took his pattern-on-pattern motif from spring to new heights with a mad mix of bright checks, plaids and Liberty-esque florals. There was a menswear element still, with sharp riding jackets and crisp trousers... But the palette of pure color and pastels added romance to the overall tone and left one feeling nostalgic for his (real or imagined) ancestral castle in the misty countryside across the pond.
