DESIGNER:
Richard Chai Love

INSPIRATION: '90s grunge meets cool Japanese streetwear with a bit of tailoring thrown in

WHO WAS THERE: Chai BFF and fellow designer Phillip Lim, model Poppy Delevigne, DJ Harley Viera Newton, Barneys' Simon Doonan, and scores of editors

ACCESSORIES: Taking the idea of grunge to heart, Chai featured flat lace up Timberland boots as his favored footwear

WHAT WE THOUGHT: Chai creates cool clothes for cool girls. For fall he solidified their uniform with an unconventional mix of fabrics and garments that when meshed together looked effortless but are actually quite savvily calculated. A navy wool jacket was worn over a cozy cotton T-shirt and silk shirtdress that was paired with ribbed wool leggings. Another standout was an oversized silver fox fur vest with silk crepe top and twill skirt. The chicly grunge collection included highly covetable wool army jackets accessorized with fingerless gloves and wool ribbed camisoles that were worn on top of silk crepe shirts. To underline his point Chai sent models down the runway not ankle-breaking heels but rather flat lace-up boots by Timberland. When the designer himself stepped out for his bow, a checked plaid shirt was tied coolly around his waist.
