Chanel Rouge Coco Tote: Our Fashion Week Hightlight (and best press mailing, ever)

2/12/2010 11:50PM by Laura Kenney

We interrupt our regularly scheduled New York Fashion Week broadcasting to bring you this gem from Chanel Beaute.

This evening, after wearily returning from a long day interviewing the beautiful people backstage at the fashion shows (feeling slightly large and terribly short), we found a breathtakingly big Chanel shopping bag at our desk.

And from that bag we pulled the cutest thing, ever.

Behold, the Rouge Coco tote.

The black cotton bag, which contained an assortment of Chanel's new lusciously lightweight Rouge Coco lip color (which the fashion flock feted just the other night), is adorned with pins galore -- Chanel logo pins, Rouge Coco lipstick pins, Coco Chanel photograph and profile pins, and -- our favorite -- color block pins that match the lipsticks that were sent to us.

When we figured out that detail, we nearly cried. The beauty was simply too much.

It sort of reminds us of the jean jacket we proudly wore in the late 80s, with our collection of cheeky pins that blared loud messages like "You're Ugly and Your Mother Dresses You Funny," and "Get a Job," but in good taste. And not acid washed.

As we type, the late night crew here at StyleList HQ is trying on all of the Rouge Coco shades, and even those who normally shy away from lipstick due to dry lips are loving the formula and the rich, creamy hues.

Peter Philips, global creative director of Chanel Makeup, describes the formula as a melt away balm. "Rouge Coco fascinates me, because I've never seen a texture this comfortable and easy to apply. It's the ready-to-wear lipstick." He adds, "I like the idea that women from the gloss generation, who are afraid of lipstick, can return to this essentially feminine beauty step."

Gotta say, the gloss lovers in this office are gaga. As in lady. Or, as our newly chic, Chanel-laden lips are now wont to say, mademoiselle.

Rouge Coco hits shelves on February 25th. For more information, visit Chanel's website.
