INSPIRATION: "I really wanted a psychedelic escapist sensibility. Cuckoo but chic," Som told StyleList.
TOP LOOKS: Mushroom fox fur trench over check blouse and speckled dot matelessé skirt; Lagoon blue Mongolian lamb coat over apricot poor boy shirt and purple micro-check trousers; "Trippy Rose" crepe calf-length flowy dress; Purple tie-dye ostrich feather top with crystals, pearlized petal sequin skirt; Cotton candy Mongolian lamb coat; Blue pearl paillette jacket over gold leopard chiffon blouse and blue chenille skirt
WHO WAS THERE: Mary Alice Stephenson in front of the camera for French TV; Kirna Zabete's Beth Buccini in a mix of bright fur and pattern not unlike what was on the catwalk; London "It" girl and shoe designer, Charlotte Olympia -- her pinup style plays opposite that of her punky sister, Alice Dellal
ACCESSORIES: Oversized men's hats by Albertus Swaenpoel; Charlotte Olympia for Peter Som lace-up open toed boots in metallic color-blocked leather; lips so dark purple they were black; fine ribbed tights in warm dusty grey, taupe and purple by Maria la Rosa; Jewelry by Peter Som
WHAT WE THOUGHT: Peter Som returned to the catwalk after two seasons of runway-less presentations, and he brought it! The show opened with a '40s-goes-to-the-future look -- like a society lady on acid, but not (Som is actually quite precise). His palette of plumb, moss and acid green, smoky blue and grey mixed with patterns including floral, leopard, '70s wallpaper prints, and check.
Add to that a flurry of bright fur and feathers, pearl paillettes the size of silver dollars, crystal beading, black lipstick, sky high metallic leather patchwork boots, powdery ribbed tights, long sweeping skirts and tulle, and you pretty much have it. Som picked up on the '70s theme fashion is running towards right now, and blew us away.
