DESIGNER: Donna Karan

INSPIRATION: The color black, which kicked off the designer's 25-year legacy; her urban aesthetic; and the transformation of the power woman she has continued to dress throughout her tenure

TOP LOOKS: Laser-cut lace shearling cardigan coat with taffeta skirt; magenta wool, lace, and organza cocoon jacket with matching skirt; lynx fur coat with organza tweed skirt; an I-could-live-in-this super-sized blue chunky knit cardigan with jersey skirt; grayish-green satin bustier with long skirt

ACCESSORIES: Slouchy black hats by Stephen Jones; collar necklaces reminiscent of Elizabeth I; and stackable bangles by Robert Lee Morris

WHO WAS THERE: Susan Sarandon, Demi Moore, Brooke Shields, Marisa Berenson, Bernadette Peters (behind them in the second row!), Rachel Zoe with her camera crew in tow

WHAT WE THOUGHT: This year, Donna Karan is celebrating her 25th birthday in the fashion business. That is no small feat, folks! For her fall show she focused on her original springboard elements fast-forwarded into modern silhouettes. That meant that the bodysuit was back. (We also saw it yesterday at Rachel Roy.)

Her matte jersey one-piece was worn under cocoon coats in sumptuous variations -- electric blue velvet, fur-trimmed black, laser-cut lace. These materials and treatments add texture to the collection with aplomb.

With looks this cool, one can only hope we'll have another 25 years of Donna.

This season is a cutting-edge ode to their high school obsessions Giorgio Armani, Donna Karan, and Azzedine Alaïa and includes full-length silk and jersey skirts all in moody rust, navy, and gray hues. The clean, pared-down silhouettes were finalized with bold collar necklaces from their Dannijo collaboration.

The show began with a stream of menswear-inspired ensembles in a strikingly neutral palette and then punched up the volume with color-blocked dresses and sweaters in shades of pink, red, and orange. A few standout pieces we can't wait to get our hands on include cute Peter Pan-collared dresses, a fantastic leopard-print fur, and the ladylike bags used to accent several outfits.
