THE SCOOP: Erin Fetherston infused her trademark princess frocks with a bit of rock n' roll tailoring for fall in what seemed to be a very clear nod to her inspiration: Ultimate Chelsea girl Nico, from the Velvet Underground. That downtown vibe translated into hair and makeup that was edgy, but still natural.
"It's a '70s-style girl but we didn't want to go too literal," said makeup artist Luca Pica. "We just wanted them to look very healthy and glowing, as if they have been running in the fields to work with the beautiful chiffon dresses." To do this, she centered the look around glowing skin, massaging a bit of oil onto the face with moisturizer, and using a sheer lipstick instead of cream blush on the cheeks.
Ladies, take note: "A sheer lipstick always contains the right amount of oil to give you that glow because sometimes cream blush can be too matte," said Pica. "I wanted it to look as if it had been natural."
Eyes received the same treatment in the form of new bronzy-brown lipstick that she put all over.
Nowhere was the source of the collection's inspiration more apparent than hair, where master stylist Odile Gilbert provided a nearly literal Nico interpretation by way of long straight hair and bangs. But as Gilbert said: "It's a look that's 70's but still very modern today." The flowing hair complimented clothes that ranged from flowing dresses to swinging thigh-skimming shifts. "It's really sweet edgy girls- a downtown girl, not too perfect."
Now that is our kind of girl!
GET THE LOOK - MAKEUP: All products by M.A.C. Use Fearless lipstick to create a little flush on cheeks but also as a stain on lips. For lips, draw color in middle of lip and tap to blend. On eyes, Pico put Cocochino Lipstick (available in August) all over, including underneath the eyelids and in inner corners.
GET THE LOOK - HAIR: All products by MoroccanOil. Odile blew dry hair straight and smooth using Hydrating Styling Cream for shine and hold. Next, she applied MoroccanOil Treatment to the tips of hair and bangs, to smooth, condition and define ends. She finished off the look with Luminous Hair Spray for light hold.
