THE SCOOP: Designer Tony Cohen's Fall 2010 fashion show was filled with leather, lace and sleek black fabrics that created billowy layers of sexy movement as the models strutted down the runway. The hair and makeup teams created a look that embodied this rough and tough elegance with smoky eyes and a messy french twist.
Hair stylist Staci Child created a french twist sewn together with pieces of leather for a soft texture that complemented the sleek lines and fabrics of the clothes. "I wanted the look to be very feminine," said Child. "I wanted that 'done it herself' appearance to come across."
Inspired by Tony Cohen's Northern European background and his modern-with-an-edge collection, makeup artist Napoleon Perdis focused on a charcoal and heather smoky eye with lots of lash and radiant skin. "The look is very opera goes to the club, with a unique edge," said Perdis. "Tony has a beautifully global look and I wanted to play that out."
Nail artist Julie Kandalec chose a bold green color for the nails. "I wanted the nails to be unexpected but not too crazy. There are a lot of laced gloves in the collection so the green on the nails adds a little pop of color that is loud but not aggressive," said Kandalec.
GET THE LOOK - MAKEUP: All products by Napoleon Perdis. First apply the Auto Pilot Pre-Foundation Skin Primer to the face as a pre-makeup base. Then apply the Boudoir Mist Spray Foundation to even out the skin tone and the Foundation Stick for ultimate complexion perfection. Follow by brushing the Camera Finish powder lightly over the face. For the eyes, apply Mesmer mascara generously on the lashes. "This mascara works so well because it has a double edge cone where one side separates the lashes and the other side thickens the lashes." Use China Doll Eyeliner in Equinox on the eye line to create a smoky eye. Follow with Color Discs eye shadow in Heather on the eye socket to add warmth and nude shadow on the brow bone. For lips, apply a first layer of DeVine Godess Lipstick in Lianna lipstick and then a second layer of Luminous Lip Veils in Hot Toffee to add a hint of shine.
GET THE LOOK - HAIR: All products by Cutler. Apply Volumizing Spray all over the hair. Follow by massaging Definition Cream to create a very slight pouf on the top of the head to create volume and add shine near the face. Pull the rest of the hair back and pin it into a french twist with bobbi pins. Intertwine pieces of leather through the hair as you pin it in the twist for a touch of edge.
GET THE LOOK - NAILS: All products by China Glaze. Apply one primary coat of Seche Base. Follow with 2 coats of Gussied Up Green polish and then finish with one layer of Seche Vite topcoat.
