THE SCOOP: Douglas Hannant's Fall 2010 collection was filled with bold, bright and futuristic prints, shapes and colors. The overall look was a fierce blend of glamorous Greek mythology and contemporary street style, with a definite graffiti influence.
The hair and makeup artists worked together to balance futuristic with classically chic; two distinct elements that Hannant used to inspire his collection.
Hair stylist Edward Tricomi wanted the hair to look like the girls could have swept it up and pinned it themselves. He haphazardly pinned up long curls, and painted the bottom pieces with chalk, bright crayola colors that were chosen completely at random, model by model. "Douglas told me that he had just seen Avatar and so he really wanted that futuristic, alien look to come across with the hair and makeup," said Tricomi. "The tribal, primitive look is very in right now."
Makeup artist Romero Jennings created a look that complimented the bold colors and futuristic shapes and designs of the collection. The look was very vibrant and dramatic, with the eyes as the focal point. Lined and painted with a blend of bright green shadows, the eyes resembled a peacock, and quite fitting for the collection, which is very loud and showy. "The makeup looks very intense up close but on the big stage, it will look fabulous. I'm not aiming to scare, but I want the makeup to articulate the impact of what Douglas Hannant is trying to do with his clothes," said Jennings. "Makeup is big this fall. Even if it isn't obvious, there is something abnormal about it."
GET THE LOOK - MAKEUP: All products by Mac Cosmetics. For the face, start with Face and Body Foundation. For eyes, start by applying Fluidline eyeliner in a cateye around the eye. Follow with eyeshadow all the way up to the eyebrow so it look like the brow just disappears into the makeup. Use a blend of two shades; Emerald Green and Teal. After applying all over the lid, take your finger and wipe off a little of the center so the skin looks worn in. Finish with two dots of White Frost shadow close to the inner corners of the eye for a touch of brightness. Curl the lashes and apply black mascara. For lips, use Peach Stock. Finish with Sculpt Powder to create a chiseled look.
GET THE LOOK - HAIR: All products by Tricomi. Start by curling the hair in long strips. After the whole head has been curled. tease the hair slightly. Add bobbi pins randomly throughout the hair and spray with hairspray to hold the messy curls in place. Then, wet a piece of color chalk (any bright shade) and paint the end pieces of hair with the chalk.
