Tory Burch Fall 2010 - Backstage Beauty at Fashion Week

MAKEUP: Diane Kendal for MAC
HAIR: Yannick D'Is
SNAPSHOT: Bright Young Things
THE SCOOP: The beauty look at Tory Burch's Fall 2010 fashion show was quite youthful and fresh -- think vibrant young girls who can get away with nonchalantly rumpled hair and bright orange-red lips with hardly any other makeup.
Yannick designed the hair but super-stylist Rodney Cutler was backstage helping out and explaining the looks (we love when power players team up!). "The idea is very simple, very young and fresh," said Cutler. "Like beautiful 19-year-old girls -- it's very "street" and wearable." There were two looks -- one down, one up -- meant to seem "like the girls did it themselves." Before they walked on stage stylists added a wide headband to the bun looks.
For makeup Kendal focused on the lips and left the rest of the face fresh with just a touch of blush. "In the collection [Tory] used vibrant color so I wanted to incorporate it on the face," she explained. "I did bright orange-y red matte lips -- matte looks fresh and young again; shiny has started to look old. It's funny how things come around like that."
GET THE LOOK - MAKEUP: All products by MAC. Kendal used four colors to get her desired shade of orange/red: Pro Pigments in Orange and Fuchsia, and Lipsticks in So Chaud and Russian Red. She used a new Mineralize blush called Soho (not out until the fall!) on the cheeks and a light smudge of Pro Paintstick in Brown on the lids. No mascara!

GET THE LOOK - HAIR: First spray your hair with Cutler Volumizing Spray. Then twist a section from roots to ends and blow it with your dryer. After you section/blow all your hair, separate and shake out the twists with your fingers. Leave it as is or gather it all back into a loose bun using an elastic or pins.

Daily Dose of Style is back in full swing and ready to tackle on new fashion dilemmas, season standouts and much more! Today, let's take on a personal issue of mine. The problem: I'm in a wardrobe rut and have been for the past several weeks. You ever have those periods of time where you hate everything in your closet, or absolutely bored of it? Ugh! And since I'm still recovering from my holiday spending (ahem, over-spending), I can't just splurge on new clothes to solve my apparel angst. The solution: Layering! Playing with layers can produce outfits for you that feel totally new. I have to admit I haven't mastered this form of art yet. I need to schedule some playtime in my closet in fact. Look below. This is what I'm taking about. Topping your old dress with a cardigan, vest and scarf updates a once-drab dress... and makes the outfit all the more interesting! How do you layer? Tell me below! Stay tuned by the way for voguetouch Shopping's Guide to Layering coming in February!
