Photos: Adrian Gaut (3)
DESIGNER: Koi Suwannagate
INSPIRATION: The Japanese kimono
TOP LOOKS: Gray cashmere long-sleeved tee worn with darker gray cashmere waistcoat with hand-sculpted flower detailing and matching asymmetrical skirt; agate-blue kimono blazer and black cocktail dress with floral fabric applique; black cashmere dress with hand-made fabric floral brooches
ACCESSORIES: Amazing chunky coral necklaces and drop earrings; black bows and head scarves; metallic sash-like belts
WHAT WE THOUGHT: Koi Suwannagate's Fall collection featured the hand-embellished flourishes her artsy-leaning clients love. Fabric flowers cascaded down the front of dresses, wandered over blazers and cardigans, and were clustered together and pinned right above the heart. Suwannagate handled her kimono theme with refreshing subtlety; there were sash belts, intricate origami folds that stayed close to the body, not to mention an unexpected palette. This Eastern-inflected collection was aimed at a supremely individual woman; the sort that could carry off -- with aplomb -- the the chic black head wraps and the charming hair bows (that somewhat recalled Marc Jacob's rabbit ears for Louis Vuitton), that we loved.
